I'm no doll!

What strikes me is that I don't particularly like it....and I don't know just why? The other thing that strikes me is that even though I don't care for it much, it is better than my squirrel shots? Go figure........

Too much black? Tighter crop? I'm scared of clowns? Honestly, I can't really say, but it doesn't hit my hot button. A tight crop might do it ...for me, but everyone is different. The technical aspects are very good, sharp, clear, nice pose........

what strikes your mind on this image?
Well, I like it myself. Nice and sharp, and I like the subject matter.

Then again, I'm not afraid of clowns, dolls don't bother me, I'm still at war with the squirrels in my yard, and I've got the thing for stuff that's slightly goth....

What's your lighting setup here?

My guess (I'm slowly learning to deconstruct lighting setups to help be better my own)
Uhh - three lights..
Main light - softbox camera right at about 45 degrees
Front fill - softbox camera left also at about 45 degrees
Rim light coming in from camera left a bit behind her.

How far off am I?

Nice work! Thanks for sharing!

I like it a lot! Reminds me of Japanese china dolls or the face of a Kabuki player! It would have been more effective still if her natural skin wasn't showing or if it too was made up like her face! Lighting is good! Better and better Eric!

Not that you need to please me, but if you haven't posted your Windmill shot, you should. It is excellent, never seen them done so well.

This is good, far better than I could have done, but as a critic, I'll tell what I think is technically wrong with it. Her left shoulder fades into the black background, which is subtle and nice. The problem though is that her left facial features are highlighted with a kicker. This strikes me as off balanced. Had her entire left side faded into the black, I think it would have added much more to the feeling of sadness that pervails. Just my two cents here.

Very interesting picture. The necklace that we see in the model's hair is an important element of the composition. So I'm a little bothered by its missing lower half. But again, an intriguing photo. I'd like to see more from the same shoot.

I am struck by the messy aspects: her necklace does not hang properly, her make-up is not put on well, her hair is messy as are the baubles on it... It lacks tightness. The composition seems more about putting your sig on the right rather than the composition's needs. Now you might have intended all of these under the 'I'm no Doll' title. But they are what strike me. Maybe a tear and a tight crop would have been more in keeping with the title since she is clearly made up like one?

As a shot, it does not make it for me, but that's just my taste. :))

.. I can also see that some of the criticisms of the others are valid. The hair strands caught in the rim light certainly detract from the tightness of the composition, as does the crop you've chosen.

Having said that, I enjoy your image posts a lot and really admire what you're trying to do with your photography and where you're going skill-wise. I certainly wish I had the courage and freedom to photograph pretty girls. :-)

I have both ( if my wiife's not looking) but can't seem to find the girls. Everytime I find one, they are always "too busy".

I like it also.

Probably because I don't like the B* Squirrel :-)
