In theory, Picasa 3 is in Beta which means they want feedback from users. But if they do want feedback, they have cleverly hidden how you do it, which leads me to believe this version really isn't a true Beta version.

Can anyone figure out how to get feedback to them, I want to whine and complain about their sharpening tool which is too crude; I figure there might be some hope before it leaves Beta to be finalized.

I didn't know Picasa 3 was out until some one here posted the news of its new incarnation, yesterday I believe. Installing the new one is painless if you have an older version. You download the new one and get rid of the old short cut on your desk top, that's it. But the sharpening tool still sucks.

There are some great improvements, I love the blemish tool; even an idiot such as myself can use it. Over all, a better product, the price is right, and the sharpening tool sucks.

By the way, did I mention anything about the sharpening tool?

There is user group on Picasa official page, where you can post you complains. Picasa developers are posting there (at least on linux Picasa group).

I did go to a Picasa forum and complain, but if they monitor their forums as well as these ones are monitored here, my complaint won't go anywhere.

You could post your whines here as well, maybe there is some stuff your missing?

I mean, if you cant find the forum on your own hand :-)

I did post in a Picasa forum, not sure of your critique.

You're not kidding! I emailed them over a year ago and asked that they add a slide-bar so you can adjust the degree of sharpening.

Picasa isn't my major editing tool but I often use it for family snapshots. I've recommended it to many, many people who don't want to get into heavy editing.

The improvements to Picasa 3, which I downloaded a couple of days ago, are nice indeed. But, again, the sharpening tool needs improvement!

In your OP you complain about getting feedback to them.
The forum is the way to go but you didn´t say you posted anything there.

You still haven´t told us the issues?

I saw your post about the sharpening tool, i am certain they know what everyone feels about that. But it´s obvisouly not something they got high on the list.

I would suggest going for something else if you want the complete package , for example lightroom.

I recently bought Elements 6 so I am going through the struggle of learning it.

Here's a book that cuts the learning curve down to size:

"The photoshop elements 6 book for digital photographers" by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski.

Instead of carefully and boringly describing each of PSE's features (without telling you how to combine them), this book tells you how to get things done, using whatever features they need to use. You learn about the features as a side effect. Mostly you learn how to get specific things done.

You'll refer back to this, I know I have. You'll also do other things with some of the very general and flexible methods shown in the book.

The conclusion I have come to is that the Google folks don't care about the sharpening problem. Since I have posted this, I have run into other folks who have complained. I strongly suspect they have had lots of feedback over the years about the sharpening tool.

Their improvements are items that gives the program wider visibility on the net, but the actual tools don't garner them much. The only tools that have been added is a better crop tool and the "blemish" tool. I like the blemish tool, it works well.

You get a large organization like Google or Microsoft with massive amounts of employees and you lose the personal touch; instead you end up with an "institutional" response, which is often a non-response.

I'd love to have a organization and editing tool designed for Flickr.

I'd pay for it if it existed.

I do like Picassa for a quickie tool, but it's not well suited for flickr.

In case nobody else has pointed this out, the sharpening algorithm seems to work on what is on the screen. If you zoom up your pic to 100%, and THEN apply the sharpen tool, you'll find that the effect is very much reduced when you zoom back to normal.
