Laptop for photo editing

You underestimate the placebo effect.
Pretty much, I think it is another case of blindly believing that it is an Apple so it must be faster.

We've still got an old Sager laptop with a 300mhz PII mobile CPU, that I bought well used on Ebay for a "buy it now" price of $112 a few years back., and it's still running just fine (although we have Linux on it now).

Even the original battery that came with this used laptop still holds a charge, as we found out recently when the power went out when we caught part of Fay, and the built in low battery alarm (very loud) woke us up again hours later.

I'm not sure I'd pay what they want for a new one, though. lol I tend to be somewhat "cheap", looking for bargains on used or refurbished gear when they can meet my needs. ;-)

Our latest laptop (for my wife's use), is a Dell Inspiron 1720 I got in refurbished condition from Dell Outlet for about $600 after a coupon code I found for more discounts in December with Vista preinstalled (although I've installed a Linux distro my wife uses instead in a dual boot config).

My only gripe with the Dell (other than Vista's quirks when I've used it) is the glossy screen (the 17" optional one that's supposed to be better). It may be a bit better for some things, but I'd prefer one that wasn't quite as reflective in some room lighting. It even supports two hard drives (although I've only got one in it now).

If you look around on some of the coupon sites, you can find some pretty good deals on refurbished machines at Dell Outlet. I've bought three Dells that way so far, and they all arrived in like new condition (so, I wouldn't even consider a new one unless there was a very good deal on one that matched what I could get a refurb for).

I think its what you said... a lot of this stuff is new technology so it probably isn't ready yet. That said, I'd be afraid to guess. Everything I've ordered from them has come earlier than they promised, but then I also never ordered anything that wasn't available to ship. With new stuff, a component could be constrained and hold the whole thing up.
I noticed the delivery date is not promissed and my order said
something about 4 weeks. The tech I talked to said something about
needing the time to configure the computer but it does not take four
weeks, my guess is they are just rolling off the production line and
maybe they are not at that point yet.

Hopefully Lenova underpromises and over delivers. Of course I have
done without a good computer for sometime and a little longer will
not kill me, BUT I WANT IT NOW!

Seriously, I am pretty excited about it.

Our Sager battery hasn't kept a charge in over 4yrs. We just have it hooked to the AC brick full time, it still works flawless, Sager wanted an arm & a leg for a new battery, we just plug it in...

We are going on a vacation to Hawaii on the 21st and I really wanted to have the laptop by then. So far the estimated ship date is 10/21, which I will have to have changed if that is the actual date.
