G'day folks, how y'all doing? This will be my first ever post with my Oly E-520 which I procured about a month back but just didn't have the willpower to post. In my defense, I've never been to any place or event interesting enough to even justify posting my 1st DSLR pics.....until now.

All these pics were taken in a small agricultural community located in my home state. It's called Sik (as in 'sick') and despite my initial reservations, it was a truly magnificent experience to be there, and above all, a more-than-perfect field test for my new machine.

NOTE: All pics have zero PP, all fresh from the box puts on flame suit, prepares for merciless criticism .

The solace of dawn. An early morning breakfast at McDonald's.

I wouldn't exactly know what plant this is

These pics are taken in a small forest reserve near the location of our host.

The E-520's IS mechanism sure helps when shooting without a tripod on wet rocks. Gotta love it.

My personal favorite. Goes to show what the Oly kit lens can actually manage under the right circumstances. Taken with the 40-150mm at max zoom, IIRC.

A mossy rock.

Thanks for posting! I especially liked the one with the girl.

Rob, your shot of the F&N bottles brings back memories! They have practically disappeared from the neighborhood coffeeshops in Singapore, replaced by dispensing machines. I guess it is the same with the larger towns and cities in Malaysia.

The E-520 is a very capable and versatile body. Good shooting!

Nice variety. The plant looks like some kind of bean, maybe soy. That McDonald's sure has good lighting. Anything different on the menu in that part of the world?

Hey Leon, thanks for looking around. The bottled soft drinks are still available, though it's definitely reaching it's twilight these days. They can still be found in some slightly rural areas, like the one featured in this thread, but drinking out of them sure makes you reconsider it's hygienic condition. Can't beat that taste of Coke and rust from the bottle cap at the same time.....

The E-520 is, truly, one of the best and most worthwhile purchases I've made in years. It has surpassed my expectations in almost every way, so to say I'm a proud owner is a total understatement. I recommend it to any prospective DSLR buyer.

Hello John, hope ya having a good day. Now that I look at it, it does resemble soy a little bit. Our McDonald's over here aren't that much different from anywhere else, we still got the legendary Big Mac and Fillet O' Fish, but we don't have pork on the menu as Malaysia is a country with a large Islamic presence. I believe that the McDonald's in India wouldn't feature beef on their menu either.

Hi there Rob,

The first one do it for me.
Very nice pics, wich lens did you use (a legacy one or mainly the
kitlens?).
Oh btw here is your message about the Katz screen:

Hello Lodi, how's it going man? Thanks for coming back and viewing. Haven't seen ya in a while, or is it the other way round? My sincerest apologies for my sudden absence from my last own thread. For some extremely odd reason, I couldn't post anymore on my legacy lens thread. It ALWAYS comes up with some kind of error that will not show my post. Very annoying to say the least.

All the pics here are taken using the twin kit lens. In fact, I have not even considered adding legacy glass into my arsenal during the time of shooting this. I haven't taken delivery of my just-arrived Auto Revuenon yet, and I will do so today after work.

I've just only noticed the thread that you just posted for my attention, and I must sincerely apologize in advance for not replying to it at all as I haven't been in DPR for quite some time due to my lousy work schedule. The info is very, very much appreciated, and I will seriously take note of what Rachael Katz has written in her mail. However, I'm starting to reconsider it as the thought of prying out the focus screen just freaks me out.

Thanks once again Lodi for your vital advice. Hope to hear more from ya.

Hey folks, thanks for sticking around. Here are the last few pics for this series, but will be posting more soon on.

This is what happens when you don't watch where you're sitting. But why the look of joy?

Sungai Batang (Batang River) in Sik, Kedah. Of all the times to miss out getting a CPL filter.....On another note, the area around this location is quite creepy due to the almost total absence of people here.

Hi there Rob,

Don't apologies men, there no force outhere for it :). I am pleased seeing you back, making pics, etc, I like that.

Now I am started also to post some pics from time to time, but I haven't much expirience in outdoor shooting. Most of my work is indoor photography, but I like the outdoor shooting, beside that it's give's some fresh air to :) and give's maybe some meaningful comment here on the web.

The bottles undergo quite a cleaning I am sure ;-)
Heh, I hope so, too. The last time I drank off the bottle, it had a really odd taste as described within the last post. For now, I'll stick to the cans and plastic bottle, thank you.

Ah Rob! I was already pining for the feeling of being in S.E. Asia and then you have to go and post these beautiful photos.

Nice shots there, Lodi. Indoor shots are smthng that I REALLY need to work on. It doesn't help that my kit lens has only a max of f/3.5. With my Auto Revuenon on it's way, I really can't wait to give it a shot, literally.

So, enjoying your Carl Zeiss lenses lately? It must be amazing to shoot with the legend optics. Right now, I'm considering the 12-60 SWD myself, but maybe a flash would be more appropriate as a first major accessory.

I've actually taken a few pics prior to the ones in this thread, all the way since 1 month ago, but I'm not being humble by saying that they're really not worth posting, because they really aren't. Having a DSLR can be a major workout at times, considering the never ending parameters you have to configure to get the right shot, although it really feels much easier with the Oly.

Hi Kurt, how ya doing? Thanks for looking around. You should take a trip here someday. As uninteresting as it seems, on the surface, there's quite a few nice places to check out, provided you look hard enough. I come from the state where these pics were taken, but I wasn't even aware of it's existence until just recently.
