The next person that complains about no AF in video mode should be banned on the basis of stupidity. lol. Instead of posting drivel like that, go to a video forum and learn something or two about manual focus.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

The discussions about the movie mode in the D90 are getting really funny. :D

Somebody who does want a pure dSLR gets accused to not embracing technology, and being an idiot for not understanding how cool video is.

Somebody who want AF in the movie mode gets accused of being an idiot for not wanting a purist video mode.

Being a video purist is cool, being a photography purist is stupid - and this in a forum about still photography equipment.

OK, enough of yoking.

Why isn’t there AF in movie mode and why is manual focus better?

I know why continuous AF (AF-C) isn’t a good idea in a movie mode, but what about normal AF? Why not embrace new technology and use a fast an reliable AF for acquiring focus without keeping focus (AF-S)?

Why should those who want continuous AF be left out? Those who know why AF-C is a bad idea in a movie mode could easily switch AF-C of, you know just like the photography purist could ignore the movie mode ;)

Offcourse it istn better with manual focus. Its a matter about money. It propably was easy to implement the video function from live view, but difficult to implement AF in video. So Nikon got some cheap points without ruining the economy in the project and is left with a not so usefull feature that gets hyped a lot.

Fantastic marketing, for mr and ms jones, that just want to shoot a bit of video of the kids running around its useless.

Best wishes

Jakob

Lack of AF during video recording is not a big problem.

However, it seems like both aperture, shutter speed and iso are locked during recording. THAT is a limitation!

And contrast detection AF is probably to slow to get a real fast and reliable AF.

Does the AF indicator work in movie mode? I guess that would be a very useful thing to have to get sharp focus but still be able to get smooth focus transitions with manual focus.

Something lacking that is probably a limitation of technology gets touted as a professional feature. The marketing department has to love that. ;)

I read elsewhere that after all, it might be only the aperture that is locked during video recording. And that AE-lock can be used.

Are we still allowed to complain about the inclusion of video mode on a still camera? And how idiotic it is to saddle a high-end semi-professional camera with a cheap, quasi-functional amatuer feature?

And just for clarity, waht are we banning said people from?

I never gave a damn about the meter man until I was the man who had to read the meters.

Speaking of stupidty...
Speaking of posting drivel...

I'm sure everyone wishes they could ban anyone who disagrees with them.

What's so funny here -- this forum is filled with cry-babies who
can't stand a single negative comment about the D90, even though
not one of the posters owns -- or as far as I know -- has used the
camera.

...so, you're going to ban anyone who complains about no AF in
video mode?

I'm disappointed with no AF in video mode.

Well, I'm still here, so I guess your suggestion of banning
everyone who posts something you don't like didn't work
out. Bummer.

Such a worthless post, and more D90 fodder.

You should be banned from this and any other forum.

And I should be banned for rising to it.

And anyone else should be banned if they reply to my reply.

And the person banning people should be banned for having nothing better to do.

And Phil should be banned for creating this site.

And as for Amazon, ban it.

Humbug.

Ban me now, please.

New BAN button on Nikon D90 automatically deletes persons on pictures and movies that do not like the video feature of the Nikon D90.

there is no video camera with a sensor d90's size with AF

problem with d90 is that you can get it for $1k, not $$$$$$ like before so any idiot will have something to say about video
