Which one would you buy and why?

It appears that many of you are big fans of the image tank/bank.

I bought the Image Tank (w/o HDD) because it does one thing.
It provides a place for you to store images when your camera memory gets filled.
It doen't have a display that shows your photos (and eats battery life)
It doen't double as an MP3 player or Palm Pilot backup.

It just stores your photos, runs on any available source of 6 to 8 volts at 700ma or more. Will read SmartMedia, Compact Flash or Microdrive.

It doesn't require a separate docking stand/charger, is small, light, and can be upgraded by the user just by taking out one HDD and putting in a larger one.

Least expensive.
Upgradeable.
Does the job of bring home pics.

If I wanted/needed faster downloads to computer, TV shows while traveling, listening to MP3s, etc. I'd pay more and buy another model. (I'd hate to give up the ability to upgrade.)

I agree with BOB. Because of price and it does the job.

I saw that one can get a 3GB IB for $200 now? Good entry price. Upgradeable later is a huge PLUS.

Liron,

you might consider ordering an IB online and having it fedexed to an address in the U.S. where you'll be staying (provided someone you know is at that address to receive it)--just a thought--Pat

I would recommend Cardmediaviewer-H...

Its new on the market, but its less expensive than both Vista and Image tank... $90 USD without HD... I got mine with 20GB HD for $160..

its pretty much the same as Image tank with extra features like viewing pictures and MPEGs on TV and plays MP3 as well...

It runs on 6 AAA batteries...

I am not saying its better than the Image Tank... but its another option for people wanting to get a storage device...
Which one would you buy and why?

Could you provide location details of where you bought the CardMediaviewer? Thanks....

I have just checked out the cardmediaviewer-h on their website. http://www.card-media.co.uk/cardmediaviewer-h.htm . I cannot see any mention of batteries, also it seems to handle only certain sizes of JPEG (320x240 or 1024x768). Can you give us more info on the one you bought. if it does take AAA batteries how long do they last? It doesn't say whether it can copy from the memory card directly to the hard drive either.

Thanks

Andy.

Hi

I got mine from the website

http://211.75.42.203/~pcprice/customer/KingByte/index.php?php_mode=spec&php_itemid=53

not directly but via a friend who works in Taiwan... I think you can get a similar price on the website too...

I posted a review a couple of days ago so you can search for it under "CARDMEDIAVIEWER-H", but yeah the size of JPEGs only goes up to 1024x768, however it displays pictures larger than that with no problem.

The battery pack, well its self made and I've transfered more than 4GB on 8 AAA, (works with 6 as well) and its still running, but i don't know how long they will last though, seems that it will last longer on rechargable AAA batteries, but i haven't tried them....

and yes it copies memory card directly to the hard drive without connecting to a computer, just power it up press a button and off it goes...

hope this helps...
Thanks

Andy.

Thanks laserdough,

I'm compiling a list of features for all the available storage devices. I will be buying one shortly and I want the one that suits my needs best. I will search out your review.

Best wishes.

Hi,

Yes I will post it if I get around to putting it in electronic format. It's one of those "back of a fag packet" type lists that will be thrown away once the choice has been made. New devices are being discovered almost daily so the choice is a tough one!

('scuse the British slang, that's "cigarette packet" to our American friends). :-)

Regards

Andy.

You can buy it here:
http://www.insidecomputer.com/store/imagetank/buy.html
They do overnight shipping too.
IT is a better version than IB from the same manufacturer.

yaber.
