Have placed my deposit for a D90 with Nikon on Broadway. They are advising delivery in third week of September.

Body is $1380.00 AUS so not too different to US with peace of mind of Aust warranty.
Regards to all
Vince
PS

Pity no AF in video mode. I wonder if it can be implemented as a firmware update using Tripod Mode Liveview?

If you are Number 2 does that make me Dr Evil? (As per Austin Powers movies)
I went just for the body as I have some existing lenses.
Am thinking of doing the IR conversion once I have used up most of the warranty.
Regards
Vince

The D90 is for my fiancee.

I have been thinking a lot about having my old D70 converted to IR, I'm not entirely comfortable sending it away to the US. I might never see it again, or it could get damaged in transit. :-/ I'm not sure if I can get it converted in Aus, I doubt it.

I initially thought that this price was a tad steep but if you buy it from B&H in the states and ship it here it would cost Aud$1224. I will probably go down the same route as you guys, and get it from a certified reseller for the warranty etc

I will be interested in what price Digital Discount (Grey importers) in Sydney have it priced at though...

One problem is that B&H don't ship Nikon bodies to Australia. :(

Yes, you pay a little more locally than you would if you COULD buy the body from B&H, after exchange rate conversion, GST (when over AU$1000 value) and shipping cost, but you have an Australian warranty. It's certainly not the huge rip off some that some people from other countries complain about when comparing their price to the US price.

I have no problem ordering stuff from B&H, it often works out much cheaper even after shipping. I want to pick up a couple of new batteries (have you compared EN-EL3e battery prices between B&H and most oz prices?!) and other misc stuff where I don't care about warranty. :)

Ask Danny.
They can do those kind of mods here too.

ps : The SB-900 pricing is changed too. $615 -10% GST ... is very interesting . I will be ringing Bruce tomorrow. Hope they open early and have a few in stock.

Thanks a lot for the tip, I'll do that!

I'm wondering whether I should wait for the shutter to be replaced first, it's done around 44k photos. Nikon might not want to touch a modified camera?

When I did my calculations the exchange must have been very slightly different, I came out with $1229. But as the total is over $1000 I also factored in the GST which should apply, total $1352.

When I worked out with the new lens and took GST into account we were cheaper than B&H!

The way the Australian dollar is going, soon the D90 will be $2000.

About IR, have you tried converting regular photos to infrared-ish using photoshop?
Cheers
