Has anyone seen this month Rangefinder magazine ? On page 148 is a advertisement about Nikon and WPPI. Its a half page ad. I won't type everything verbatim, but it basically says "The 2009 WPPI BIG event sponsored by NIKON. BIG ! "Don't miss it. It's gonna be BIG !" (OK I'll type it all out) Something BIG is coming to WPPI this year. Something SO BIG we can't even tell you what it is. How BIG ? BIG enough for WPPI and Nikon to reserve the world-class MGM Grand Arena ! You can't afford to miss what WPPI and Nikon have in store for February 2009. We really shouldn't say anymore, but we will. Next month !" It goes on with; Monday BIG
8:30pm BIG
Nikon BIG
etc etc

They sure use BIG alot in the ad.

Just thought I'd throw this out there as I haven't seen it on the forum yet. Perhaps its the High res Nikon body.

If that were true...and NIKON took over Canon...does that mean our cameras will be crossbred to start looking like Labradoodles?

I like my NIKONs just the way they are! :)

PS. no offense to Labradoodle owners

No competition would be bad for the consumer. Though I don't see that ever happening.

Come on - the hostle take over of Canon by Nikon was a joke! As popular as Nikon is right now they are still not anywhere as big as Canon.

And for the record, Labradooles are cute! :-)

That show has a main sponsor- Canon. Does nikon want to wait until then to shwo their studio camera? Talk about in your face!

The keyword they mention is big. May I ask, how do you get a rangefinder out of "BIG"? How does a rangefinder interest wedding photographers in particular? The magazine is for pro shooters, not rangefinder shooters. From their website:
Welcome to Rangefinder

Rangefinder is the premier monthly magazine for the professional photographer. Each month Rangefinder typically includes:

— product and new equipment reviews
— lighting and technical pieces
— how-to’s
— promotion and marketing stories
— portraiture tips
— accessories and system round-ups
— computer technology
— black-and-white shooting
— lens reviews
— processing techniques

We hope you will enjoy Rangefinder.

I am not against a rangefinder, and frankly I might get one. But if I was a wedding shooter, I think a studio based model would interest me more.

This will probably turn out to be a big yawn. However, if there is something BIG on the horizon, I think it will be the rumored Nikon "Modular".

I'm a little fuzzy on that.

I'm not sure Mel. Why don't you find a copy of the magazine and turn to the page I listed. Believe me, I've got better things to do then start a rumor thread....

Nikkor 1200mm AF-s that cos so much that nobody buys? That wll be BIG, no?

Everybody brings joy to this room; some by entering, some by leaving.

Photo District News is the premier monthly pro mag, not R/F.

Rangefinder only really touches on the very mainstream vocation of the wedding and portrait industry. PDN touches upon that as well and much, much more.

Well, that makes sense since I've already predicted in other threads that D90 gets announced now and D3x (or whatever the high MP camera will be called) in six months. That makes it February. So there you go.
