The gentleman that owns the local Photo store has become a 4/3 fan over the last year or two. Since I started going there, and he brought some in and they have sold Very well for him. He said he sells more 4/3 than aps-c.

I stopped in yesterday and we were discussing the different cameras, and of course m4/3 came up. As soon as I mentioned it he said the press release is scheduled for the 5th of September. He is under the impression that Olympus will be launching a m4/3 body at that time.

He was accurate about previous launch and announcement dates, and usually has a vague idea of what is coming. Not specs or anything very specific but what type of body or lens and where in the line up kind of thing.

I told him the impression that I and others on this forum have is Panasonic is going to lead the way and Olympus will launch a little later. He hinted that one of the fist models won't be aimed at the entry level user but didn't say P or O.

I believe him on the scheduled announcement date, as for the hinting I am not holding my breath. Just thought some people might like to hear it.

Maybe he thinks the announcement of the new tween Oly is actually m4/3... I would be surprised if they had something ready that quickly.

Just in time so I can go and order it for my birthday, Olympus you shouldn't have

Could be.

All the information that I can gather, and it may not be correct, is that Panasonic will have something to say regarding mFT at Photokina and Olympus will have something to say a couple of weeks later.

Panasonic or Olympus

As a guy who carries a Leica instead of a point and shoot (don't even own one) when I'm not working, I am really looking forward to the announcement.

A large sensor, no mirror and interchangeable lenses is just what I have been hoping for when I want to shoot digital for fun. I'm still hoping it's good enough to use for work too.

could be right
a number of releases have been on the 5th of the month
and they need some ramp time for the Exx release Oct/Nov production slot

in my home, the smoke alarm is the dinner bell (just)

Seems to make sense that Oly/Pany would want to present their first
product in the same year as their announcement.
