Hi all!

Why not Canon EF 85L II f/1.2 for Canon reviews? The other 85 f/1.8 have noticable worst image than 85L II.

I know 85 1.8 cheaper thank 85L II...
What do you think why?

The 85 f/1.8 is a very good prime...even if the 85L is better, I have no complaints about the use of the cheaper prime.

Look at Castleman's comparison...I don't really think the cheaper prime is noticeably worst.

Are they all tested with the same lens?

I can see the point of using a mid-range lens to test the cheaper cameras as they would be more representative of what the potential user will have on his/her camera.

The top end cameras should be tested with the best possible lenses though.

... stopped down or wide open? I don't think it should be used wide open for a camera review at all. Stopped down to around f/5.6 it kind of sets a standard for what sharpness should be (the 135L is also good in this regard).

A problem I can imagine when using this lens would be its MFD... also no other manufacturer has a 85 1.2 for SLRs. At least for Canon vs. Nikon comparisons, I think the best option would be to use correctly adapted Nikon lenses on Canon bodies. There are some people here who can't figure out why this should be done and will say hardly anyone will ever use a Nikon lens on a Canon body but the point is to make all things equal as possible so we're comparing the cameras and not the camera+lens combos.

yes the II is fantastic, it's my favorite lens

and no, you can't compare it with the excelent 1.8 version, it's just different, it's not only about sharpness ... try it and you'll understand why I call it the precioooous :D

so a review will come in time, this lens is legendary, don't worry ... just give dp guys the time to write it

right now, a review of the new sigma 50 1.4 is more than welcome, there is little knowledge about that one - I hoped they would include the 50 1.2 in the comparison though

so yes the 85 II will have it's review in time, but it won't tell you what you need to know : if you try it you'll want it, that's all.

happy shooting

Hi Memento!
...it wouldn't even be fair to the competitors.

Really, having the 85/1.8 myself, I've tried the 85L II for the first
time this week and... WOW, just WOW.
You think I have right about 85L II better thank 85/1.8?
When I tested with 30D I SHOW the difference... Maybe you too...

I think it will be fair... Test with BEST cameras with BEST lenses...

I think will be fair to use Canon body with 85L II or 50L II and use Nikon body with best Nikon lens...

When... about in 2012?

I never used Sigma 50 f/1.4, just the 50L.
