Hoppy Hour

  1. 3 is a winner, texture of the leaves against the background. I you sure you are using a H series camera and not a DSLR? You have to have a DSLR to take great pictures.

Thank you!

AND - the wedding exceeded my greatest expectations. The photos turned out beautifully. I'm still processing them (there are over 1,000). My brother and my dear sister-in-law came out Sunday and were just thrilled over them - and they hadn't even been processed at that point.

The wedding had about 200 people there and there was a beautiful wedding cake - and a yummy chocolate groom cake. At least, it looked yummy. It was gone in less than 10 minutes. Tom had wanted a piece, too. :-)

They had a chocolate fountain and a beautiful silver punch fountain, too. It was quite formal as weddings go. I had purchased a very expensive gown at a local store that had a grand opening - with a twenty spot (gasp!!!). It's a gorgeous gown, and my mom bought me high heels to match as a gift. BUT, I soon realized that I couldn't take photos in that - so at the last minute I purchased a knee-length formal dress and a pair of silver flats.

In the end, I didn't get to do any of the special shots I'd wanted to do. There just wasn't time. The church was extremely dark, so that was challenging. The fuji really performed well. Most of the shots had an ISO of 400. Both of us 'nailed' the wedding kiss. The couple paused as they headed out of the church (the groom to kiss his mom and the daughter to kiss her mom) and Tom ran to the back of the church and got some terrific shots of them coming down the isle.

There are some shots that I absolutely love: the flower girl, the ones of the couple during prayer in front of the minister, the wedding kiss, the wedding cake shots - and there are some very humorous shots in the mix. One of our sons has a 2 year old who was the ring bearer - and he is a very busy little boy. There are some shots where my son is very angry at him - and those are so funny.

Everyone is now suggesting that we do this as a sideline. NO WAY!!! Good grief, I know why wedding photographers charge what they do. It's worth every penny, too.

And I decided not to go with a wedding book. I ordered a book from BLUB containing my nature shots - just to see how it would turn out. The photos are superb, but the quality of the book isn't. Some of the pages were still stuck together and when I went to separate one of the pages, the ink on the bottom of the page came off. I can touch it up - because by the time I send it back, it just isn't worth the trouble. With shipping, it cost $42 - so I had expected a bit better quality.

For the wedding couple's package, I've purchased several frames - and we have three 8x10's that we have framed, and several other matching frames containing smaller shots (5 x 7's). I also processed one in black and white (and framed it) and it's gorgeous. We found a wedding photo book and a beautiful blue satin photo book for the other photos. We put twenty 8 x 10's in one (it filled it up) and I have about 300 prints coming for the wedding album. I also bought an album which holds only their shower and rehearsal photos. So I think they will be getting a nice package. This is part of our wedding gift to them - so I hope they like it. We'll be giving it to them next week after the prints arrive. We're also giving them disks of the untouched originals, plus a disk with the processed photos - and we'll give these to both parents, too. The flower girl photo is so beautiful that Tom printed off one for the mother.

AND OH - I set up my H2 and it filmed the entire wedding (about 34 minutes in all). That was a wonderful surprise. :-)

Because the photos were taken with non-Sony cameras, I won't post them at the forum. After I get them processed, I will be glad to share a few with anyone who would like to see how they turned out.

Thank you again, Moti for your help!

Thank you so much, JJ. They were all taken with the native lens except the second shot.

Until last year, I didn't realize there were so many different species of grasshoppers.

Thank you again, JJ!

LOL!! I'll have to take a look, but I'd bet you are right. I'm always taking photos and when I show my husband Tom, he says something like, "Too bad it's missing a wing." :-) I always miss stuff like that.

And why is it that the insect subjects that are most cooperative are those that have flaws? :-)

Thank you so much for commenting, Tech.

And I know what you mean about processing those photos. I'm sooooo busy processing these wedding photos - and it's starting to drive me coo-coo. I'll be so glad when I'm done.

When I get restless for taking pictures I go to the Zoo, we have a
large one about 6 miles from me. I can spend a good 4-5 hours
practicing shots. Soon all the animals will know me by site..LOL

Keep on shooting memories...

Thank you so much. As to the H1, I've seen some beautiful photos taken with that camera. I do know one thing. I sure have loved my H2. :-) It's flaking out now and my husband 'repossessed' his H9 from me (he is a handsome Indian Giver IMHO). I use the H2 for my 'everything' camera AND I sold all my other camera gear so I could get the Fuji S100fs because of it's wide angle, among other things. I'm really happy with that camera, too. Soon, I'll be looking to replace my H2. About a month ago, the zoom stuck. The flash rarely works. And it has more issues - but gosh, I still love it!

Hope this helps!

Thank you again, Bassy. :-)

Surprisingly, it rained last night! :-) And, it's cloudy here right now, so the break from the intense heat is a nice change.

Thank you again, Jill.
