Price of D700 in US of A

Hello all, simple question I guess. I'm heading to the New York in September and thought about picking up a D700 while I was there, but I noticed the price is still at $2999 and availability at B&H seems to "fluctuate". The price in London has dropped from £2000 to £1,799.00, which is approx $3,400. So I'm saving about 200 quid, but I then need to factor in different power plug, warranty is world wide so no issue there.. I guess my question is, has the price come down in the US anywhere, I assume it must have as the uk has dropped quite a bit and if I get to NYC and B&H is fresh out are there plenty of other places to go to which offer a good price? If so where? Ritz?

You might want to read what Nikon has to say about warranties. The last sentence seems to be key here in regard to "Worldwide Warranties." Thus, if you buy in the USA it appears you should get a USA warranty and keep the warranty and sales receipt.

From the nikonusa.com knowledge base:

"The Nikon USA warranty on film cameras, lenses, and speedlights will be honored by Nikon-authorized service centers outside the United States as long as you have the yellow copy of the Nikon USA warranty and your sales receipt from a dealer in the USA. The key to the validity of the warranty is a sales receipt from the country in which you purchased the equipment. If you purchase equipment in another country where the Nikon Worldwide Warranty applies, copies of the sales receipt and this warranty are necessary to obtain warranty service in the USA. Buying the equipment with a Nikon Worldwide Warranty in the United States is not recommended because that warranty is not valid in the USA without a sales receipt from an overseas dealer, and it is not valid outside the USA with a sales receipt from a dealer in the USA."

My understanding is that your warranty from Nikon USA will not be valid in UK. Digital DSLRS do not come with worldwide warranty. Also you will automatically get two year warrranty in UK not to mention that if you do get caught and have to pay VAT on your return.

Thom Hogan just answered a question about US lens warranties for me on the this forum earlier. I also got a letter from Homeserve(acting for Nikon) offering me third year warranty on my D200 for 49 pounds. If the pound drops any more before Sep. you are probably safer on many accounts buying in UK. I bought my D300 in US and bought the additional two years warranty from Nikon for $165.00 but my D300 has to go back to US if I want to claim for warranty and the camera may have to be sent to Nikon from a US adddress. The savings is being eaten by the hassle.

Factor in the VAT if you buy in England
