serious to offer against new Nikon cameras and upcoming 24 MP Sony,
not even something against 14 MP full weather sealed Pentax K20D

That's exactly what we are seeing nowNowadays I think Canon really went back to their drawing board and trying to
figure out what they'll offer.
Might happen if Sony delievers quality.Anyways; I still hope it won't be that way and this company will
announce something worth to wait at Photokina. I also hope Nikon

--Hey guys,
I've been one of those who believes Canon will come up with a few
upgrades at Photokina next month. But, this morning (USA) after
talking to my relative in Istanbul/Turkey, I kinda lost faith on that.
My relative, he has no idea about these forums or cameras; but he
works (he is one of the department decision makers) for a company in
Istanbul that purchases a lot of Canon products (specially Canon
printers).
Anyways, that's what I was told (please don't take it wrong, it was
just a conversation and there is nothing guaranteed about this):
New Canon cameras will be available after January 2009. 4 new Canon
digital EOS cameras and new lenses will be announced at PMA:
2 x FF EOS digital
1 x 1.3 crop EOS digital
1 x 1.6 crop EOS digital
4 new lenses for Canon EOS cameras
1 x digital media storage device

said the same. What a coincidence!
Such as what, $23.50..? Every 15-year old would like the price ofMaybe

1Ds3 come down to zero so maybe for ya even $23.50 would be too much.
Now - next time before writing such drivel think about the size of
the crow you'll need to eat if your "information" is incorrect...
Completely agree with this. Except that Nikon's zoom is 14-24. We have to resort to the Sigma 12-24 meanwhile for a super wide-angle zoom in this range. What is it that Nikon has released in the D3 and D700 that you can't
live without in the MKIII and 1DsMKIII or the 5D for that matter.
For me the only real envy is the incredible 12-24 zoom that Nikon has
released.
More than new bodies, I would love to see a redo of their wide zooms,
to offer the alternative that Nikon does.

Geez...I thought that people in 2008 don't make such moronic statements anymore. Apparently I was wrong.Well ain't you just a proud American ... There's other countries all
over the world too, you know - maybe you should visit some and wake
up ...!
Or ... you can stay asleep (in coma, actually), thinking you're the
one running and knowing it all.
--See, that's what I really don't understand about personalities like
you. You and your kind always have to attack for nothing. You sound
like a very unhappy dude.
Again, what I wrote was not 'information'... it was just a
'conversation' and unfortunately I made a mistake and wrote it here
to share just because of the possibility of 'maybe'.
I'll be more than happy to see 'otherwise' and grill the crow with
pleasure.

That is true, but that also explains the problem. Each of these Canon cameras can do part of what the D3 and D700 can. There is a high speed camera with good low light abilities, but not FF and neither allows EF-S lenses. There is a realy good and capable FF with great resolution, but it's too slow and too expensive and doesn't do as well with noise. And then there is the 5D which is decent and FF but is slow and old. What is it that Nikon has released in the D3 and D700 that you can't
live without in the MKIII and 1DsMKIII or the 5D for that matter.
I own this lens and didn't think much about it before I bought it actually. I just wanted a good wide angle for my new D3 and the 14-24 has turned out to be better than I thought. I have been looking at the photos I took with it and it turned out that I use it on the wide end much more than on the long one. So a zoom starting at 16 or 17 would not work as well for me for sure.as it turns out.
If you own one you'll know.
One needs some very direct purpose in buying that lens.
The 17-35 or 16-35 is much more practical
