Is it normal for e-520 to emit a loud repetitious thumping (kinda like sewing machine) noise during power down? It'll not do that if IS is off. For those of you having e-520, please verify the observation for me. Thanks.

Yes it is. See my thread above. I have my own concerns about leaving IS on all the time and if this will cause the motors to fail with time because of the grinding.

Yes it's normal, my E510 does it too. As you are aware, the IS motor makes this noise when it 'powers off'. As you say, this may make it wear out sooner, but it is listed in my E510 manual as normal, so I assume that it is designed to do this.

The noise is the dust reduction and it is normal. If it bothers you that much turn it off and use it only when you change a lens.

oops I was thinking of my K200. The DR makes no sound on the Oly

See this thread for more information ===> IS Worries
The OP called Olympus and called this is normal.

The IS resets itself if it is on. This makes the noise. It may wear out the motor quicker but the shutter and camera will probably be gone or very obsolete by the time the IS motor dies.
