I was wondering how many of you are going to be using your D100's for sports and your impressions about using it for sports.
TIA,
Matt

I'm not sure it's going to be fast enough for sports, you'd be better off with the D1H.

Not me! I'll use my D100 for portraits, landscapes & macro. This camera doesn't seem suitable for sports.

Its' a little early to tell. It won't be a Canon EOS 1D or a Nikon D1H, but some will end up using it for sports. I wouldn't buy it strictly for sports shooting though. You would better served with the Nikon D1H.

Trent

i'll give it a try for racing (autocross, track, drag) but i'm keeping my D1 in case the D100's focusing system can't hang with fast-moving objects.

Sports are my number one reason for purchasing the D100. Best camera in the $2,000 price range for indoor sports because of very good auto focus and available ISO all the way to 6400. In most high school gyms and many other indoor events, f2.0 and ISO 1600 are needed to really stop action and so using a f2.8 zoom would work best at ISO 3200 to stop action along with software to remove some of the noise later. Also the 6mp image gives you a lot of room to crop and enlarge, especially if you can not afford the big fast telephoto lens.

I'd think not - but it is probably fine for peak of action type sports shots – it would not be fast enough, have a big enough buffer or FPS for “serious” sports work.

However, its low light and high ISO ability makes it a possible contender, especially if one has the fast AF-S lenses to accompany it, this affords the best possibility but it means fitting glass to it at

My word – I don’t do “serious” sport so for the events I have to cover – it will do just fine.

And as long as you shoot only about 6 frames a minute, evenly spaced, it will do you very well! :)
