I'm debating which one of these to buy. I was leaning towards the 3030z but I read on the spec page here that it can only take up to a 64Mb smart media card. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Also, I was browsing the sample galleries of both models and it seemed the 3040z pictures were more clear. The 3030z seemed just slightly more grainy. Look at the pic of the asian woman who is in both galleries. You can see the finer textures of here skin with the 3040. Is this just better lighting with the 3040 pic, or my imagination.

I know that the 3040 has improvements but I didn't think I'd be able to see a difference.

You can use 128mg cards in either camera. The 3040 has lots of extra features, remote, sound with movies, etc. Check the features of each.

Are you planning to buy a NEW C3030Z? I didn't think you could get them anymore. They have been out of production for a while now. I have a C3030Z and really like it. But, if I were to choose between the 3030 and the 3040, I would go with the 3040. They fixed some of the shortcomings of the 3030 when they came out with the 3040.

I have C3030z. It works fine with 128MB.

If you would like to see pictures which I took with C3030, visit my gallery http://www.daliasgallery.com

Thanks, I just saw the comparison table at the start of the 3040 review that states the 3030 will work with 128mb.

Buydig.com is selling the 3030z. The site says it's in brand new and in stock, unless they are doing the bait and switch thing.

One thing I'm still not clear on is the sound with movies. My understanding was that both recorded movies with sound, and both could play them back with audio/video out to a TV, but that there was no internal speaker for audio playback for either one. Can anyone verify this.

(Nice moon pics Miss M.)

The 3030 does record sound with movies and has an infared remote. I know because I own one. My good friend has a 3040 and you can not tell the difference in the pictures. The 3040 has a faster lenses which will be better in low light conditions but thats it.

The 3030 has these features as well. Remote, sound with movies etc..

The 1.8f lenses and auto usb connectivity are the only differences

Well, almost. The 3040 does have manual white balance and white balance fine tuning whereas the 3030 doesn't. Neither camera has an internal speaker. I believe that only Olympus' E-series cameras has this feature.

Doesn't the 3040 have a larger buffer then the 3030?

Yes, 32mb vs 16mb.

The F1.8 lens is what makes this camera shine....you dont have to use an intrusive flash all the time. If my UZI had that it would be near perfect.

OOPS, I stand corrected, Thanks Bill
Looks like the lens and price would be the determining factors.

No problem. Yea i think the lens is the difference, but 3030 needs camedia software to download and the 3040 has the autoconnect which is cool if you don't use a card reader but not a deal breaker.
