Beginner with telescope ;-) In responce to Shay's question

That is a great looking moon, nice and detailed and crisp. How
does it do with dimmer celestial objects?

I forgot to mention... I'm going to have to make a counterweight system to offset the camera weight. The motor drive doesn't work with the camera mounted. Way to much weight on the rear of the scope. I have a plan forming in my head though ;-)

Hey Ron,

I just now see that you meantion you have the ETX90RA, not the EC. Do you know what the difference is?? Besides about 200.00 in price??

Thanks!

The RA is a manual equitorial mount and motor drive... the EC can be controlled with a "finder" controller. In other words you input the object like M-45, and as long as you have the polar mount angles set right, the scope finds the object, or close to it. Once you have a known object calibrated, you can select any object in it's database and the scope will find it for you.

The scope itself is identical..... the extra cost is for the no brainer controller, and mount.

Wow! I love it!. I, like you, am a 'newbie'. I brought my wife a Christmas gift this past Christmas....A Meade ETX70. Would you be kind enough to post a list of the accessories you purchased to take pics with your scope? I assume (there's that word again) that your using a 707 (as am I). Thanks for any help you can offer.

PS to Dwight1973.......a scope makes a (fill in the blank) gift for the wife! Worked for me!

another PS.... I'm about to buy my wife another 'gift' a Meade 10" LXD55 Schmidt-Newtonian. If anyone with experience has an opinion, or advice, on this scope I would love to hear it.

Ron,

Can you give us all the parts that we need to buy at scopetronics in order to connect it to the F707? Thanks.

Oh no, not another F707 related puchase .....
I went directly to eBay and bought it now! for $189!

what else do I need to attach my 707?

what else do i need to know?

got some links?

am i nutz?
Ron

I have the scopetronics MaxView 40mm eyepiece and the Digi-T adaptor for the 707 available at http://www.scopetronics.com .... oh yeah and a lot of luck ;-) I was actually just trying it out... the sun had not quite gone down and there was a break in the cloud cover.

That shot has gotten me the most critique points I have ever had on PhotoSig. Sometimes you just get lucky ;-)

I am to the buying point I think. I have found a RA for 189.00 and want to buy it. One last question though. DO you wish you had gotten an EC so you could have the go to features? Or are you satisfied with the RA?

THanks!!!!

If I bought the EC and punched in M-45 and went to look at it.... I wouldn't know what I was looking at... as I said... the telescope is the same... it's just the bells and whistles that are different.

I am MORE than happy with what I got for the money... I am an astronomy idiot ;-)

Very nice Ron. Crisp detail. I love it. You're on my sh$# list
now. Now I'm gonna go deeper in debt to get a scope that will take
pics like this. R U happy now? I'm almost sure you work for
Meade...U must...grrrrrrr.

I don't work for Meade... but if you send me a blank signed check I will give you the secret.... but then you will be sworn to a blood oath, that can only be broken by an agreement with Ulysses. And even then there is an early withdrawel penalty. Not valid in all states...... local and state taxes may apply.... if rash or other skin disorders occure within 3 days... please discontinue use of this product.....

How much did it cost for the scopetronic thingies that you use to attach it the Meade? Damm, this is an expensive hobby. Gotta quit reading this forum. hehe.

How good is that scope for looking at things other than the moon? You got any star pic?

On a telescope as small as the ETX-90, most of the interesting stuff that you would need the computer to find for you is really too dim to see unless you are miles away from any light pollution and under a sky with no moon. On 6" or higher the computer controller starts to make more sense.

He's in Tenn somewhere, called him and talked to him today. Very nice, helpful, too. Talked to him about the eyepiece/mount for the 707 and will order one from him or direct from scoptronics (i went to their site -- very helpful, also).

I had a Celestron that I just gave away to a friend's child. One good thing about a telescope as a toy--there's always someone who wants it if you get tired.

Anyway, Michael is shipping mine tomorrow and I'm very pleased with the transaction. Very smooth. He has a great record on eBay and apparently runs a store that's inside a radio shack store. Don't ask, i don't know how that works, but he's a regular Meade retailer. If you want the scope you can go straight to his site where he has it advertised for 199

Did you buy from a guy named mshwebb on E-bay? If you did, worry
not. That's who I got mine from.... fast shipping.
