I bought a new 5D, and returned it because it's defective. I called the dealer today, and he said that because Canon would discontinue 5D very soon, he couldn't give me a replacement, and he would like to refund for it. I required for the refund. So I am waiting for 5D's successor now. The good thing is that I avoid spending money on outdated camera. Actually, I made a couple hundred dollars from this transaction, because I got a 5D kit, and I sold out the 24-105 lens, but the dealer agreed to refund me as much as an independent 5D body. The bad thing is that I don't have any camera to use right now. Let's wait for the 5D succesor.

Really. Rebates are gonna kick in any year now. :)
The 5D MkII is already obsolete. I will get a refund on the deposit
I put on one of these with my local Canon dealer. I will wait for
the 5DMKIII.
And pass up the fantastic deals on the 5DMKIIN?!
there's going to be a successor to the 5D ? hadn't heard anything
about that yet.

Don't worry about Canon, there is always the MAGNIFICANT Nikon D700!....

Cheers, Robin.

Another classic set of dpreview responses - bang in line with the culture on this forum.

I for one thought the information interesting - thanks for taking the time to post it.

The dealer is AbesofMaine.com, and the defect is dead pixel. I am very serious, the new model will come out very soon. At the beginning, the dealer didn't accept return, because I sold out the kit lens: 24-105.
Sounds like troll to me, would be good to know dealer and defect
details. Lots of people here using 5D for years without single issue
and it is still for sale by all main stores. Get one from BH and you
will have no problem to return.

But it's funny -- the 5D is more expensive right now that it was when I bought mine in November, 2006 -- $1800 after rebates vs $2,300 right now at B&H.

I love the 5D's IQ, but more than that I love that it has toyed with the minds of so many speculators of its fate for well over 1.5 years now.

It's not the camera. It's you.

Stuff I own in my profile.

You should have checked here before returning it, dead pixels can be reset quite easily.

Another thought, I don't even throw the box away with camera stuff, none of the packaging or anything until the warrenty is up. I can't believe you sold the kit lens before you were sure your camera didn't have defects. I also can't believe the store took it back. I wouldn't count on many stores accepting that sort of thing. I think you are a careless consumer.

I think you should slow down a little, and think.

"Dead" pixels are completly unacceptable and I never ever pay any attention to the manufacturers BS about how it's a feature of the technology.

You did EXACTLY the right thing by getting a refund, but to be quiet honest, i don't believe that you were informed correctly, there are PLENTY of 5ds available. There must have been a REASON for you to buy one in the first place apart from selling on the lens that came with your body, and to be blunt, youre stuck with a lens without a body which equals NO PHOTOGRAPHY.

Despite speculation, rumour and conjecture, there is ABSLOUTLEY NOTHING official to suggest that canon will either discontinue the 5d or superseed it with a model with more uptodate features. There's every evidence to suggest that the 5d will continue to be the canon prosumer FF camera and ABSLOUTLEY NONE to suggest that it will be overhauled with respect to the demands of the newer features photographers demand . ( however, it would be incredibly STUPID of canon not to persue enhancing the '5d' line, and canon have really not stepped up to the plate so far with this regard)
