***OPEN CHALLENGE#19 - Creative Use of (Artificial) Lighting***

A family shot, lit from a campfire on the beach.
FujiFilm FinePix F40 fd
1/4s f/2.8 at 8.0mm iso800

Sorry, but I did nothing creative to prepare for this shot, but I like it.
As you can see, everything is pushed to the limit to get the shot from this P&S.

HAMADA-san this is a truly wonderful photo!

I feel the fireworks compliment the timeless structures of the Castle. Fireworks have a long life story as does this Castle, both are very old and have seen many changes in this world.

A great comparative!
Rob Kircher-san and all of challengers :
I would like to respond 'how you used the light creatively to capture
your image' and I have selected one image which I presented before at
this forum.

Fireworks are seasonal main events at summer of Japan islands at
every cities. This Kumamoto castle has history of 400 years and
symbolic architecture of my home town. I aimed to make a image
Kumamoto castle decollated with fire works. Indeed fireworks were
launched from backyards of the castle, so I CREATED the image of mine
by using photoshop.....

Mixing ambient light with strobes. Don't know if this is creative though.

Broncolor Travel Kit. Main strobe approx. 45° camera left with 50x50 cm softbox two feet from model, other strobe with reflector approx. 45° camera right four feet from model. The generator has no proportional output. D70 with Sigma 28-70/2.8 at F/8, 1/160th, Iso200 during sunset.
PP: raw-conversion, shadow/highlights, levels, curves, no sharpening yet

I just had an sb600 pointed right at the matches with a black background and I used a slowish shutter speed probably 1/10th of a second and that made the flame look the way it does. Sorry I lost my metadata at some point so I don't know the exact details. I guess the creative part is using a slower shutter speed to allow the flame to form a longer shape. Looking forward to the results and submissions!
