I will be photographing young hot women wearing sexy/skimpy summer dresses for a boutique store. No nudity or partial nudity or anything like that, but the poses should be somewhat sultry and a bit racey/sexy/hot. Not trashy, though.

Any magazines with pics I can use for reference material for poses?

Thanks!

Actually there are posing books on the market just for that purpose. Even a Google search on POSING GUIDE should come up with some sites that should give you some ideas.

Also, let me know what you think about this. I've done this for wedding photography where I've compiled a small binder of reference material from bridal magazines and took it with me for posed, formal shots. It really helped me get some fantastic-looking compositions. I've professionally shot 4-weddings with very happy clients.

My wife seems to think it's an amateurish thing to do, but it was a tremendous asset to me. What do you pros think about this idea? Do any of you ever do this?

Posing guides are helpful if both the photographer and model are clueless. Otherwise a paid trained model should have a routine of moves and expressions that will give you what you want. If you are working with "free models, don't have their boyfriends along-the eye contact will always be to the guy every time you request a pose change. Know enough to pose them gracefully so their weight is on the leg away from the camera. Use fill boards and reflectors, diffused lighting with one contrasty light to pop the outfit.
