We were hoping you guys could help us out here.

Six friends of various experience and hardware are having a friendly photo contest.

It would help us out hugely if you could browse the gallery and pick your top 3, but 3 only.

Any helpful critiques would be greatly appreciated as well.

We are using Panasonic, Canon, and Olympus DSLRs. Please be honest becuse there is some money involved. : )

Thanks again for looking.

Photo #1 is a very well composed panorama. Its lack of contrast takes it off my short list. A simple curves adjustment in Photoshop would take this photo to #1. #2 needs DOF to make the whole plane sharp. #3, no comment. #4 Short lists, #5 could be sharper. #6 could use a foreground. #7 nice, #8 is not to my taste. #9 either more or less DOF, #10, Fine photo on the short list. #11 makes the short list. #12, the black point is off and I’ll guess is the same photographer as #1. Do you need to calibrate your monitor? #13 is not lucky, #14 sharpen a touch more. #15 short list though white balance is odd. #16 Did the photographer think about composition? #17 makes the short list. I feel wet looking at this wonderful moment. #18, black point issue. #19 great moment needs sharpens, contrast and the lavender cast corrected. #20 Left tower super, right one lacks detail. #21, great idea. Clone out the head on in the reflection or feature it. Also move the glasses up to follow thirds composition. This concept has huge potential. #22 cleaver but not on the short list. #23 A terrific moment. It is a shame you did not get focus on the eye and overexposed a touch though I’ll put it on the short list because it is so difficult a photo. #23 is interesting.

The short list:
  1. 4, #10, #11, #15, #17, 23
The top 3:
  1. 4, #15, #17

1) STREET_CANVAS
2) Old Brooklyn Brown
3) NYC Rain

I'm not saying these are the "best", but they are the ones I like the best. :)

Hey Morris, great read my man! Awesome feedback. : >

Thanks.

1. 17, (but those red lights need to be cropped/cloned i think)
2. 4 just loses out as i think 17 is a more original composition
3. 23 just over 15 as it is a tough shot and i would be more proud if this one.

Can you please clarify your top 3 votes Michael? We can only go with 3.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Difficult to pick just three but here are my favourites:

NYC rain (wonderfully moody, beautiful color)
Sushi Dinner (tough shot to take, fantastic sharpness)
STREET_CANVAS (different in a good way, clever thinking there!)

I also liked many of the fireworks shots. Great pics from all of you!

Pete

(1) Bright moments of New York (East River Guardians is excellent also, but I can't resist those fireworks colours)

(2) American Tail. Contrary to what Morris says I really like the limited DOF, the multi-coloured bokeh and the focus on the star.

(3) NYC rain. But I'd crop out the red lights and a bit off the top. Like the mood.

Thanks for the great feedback!

1.=10 East River Guardians
2.=17 NYC Rain
3.=4 Bright moments of New York

Now, how much money do I get? :)

Cheers,

André
