kit lens really good deal?

could come in very handy, and it really isn't too shabby of a lens.

It can come in even MORE handy if you ever decide to upgrade and you want to sell your 450D. Having a lens on it, especially one with Image Stabilization, will make it a much more attractive deal to potential buyers. ;)
Hi,

I am thinking of buying the 450 d as a second body for daily use. I
have a 17-40L and a 50 1.8, I wonder if it is worthwhile for me to
get the 450d body only or is the kit lens that
good that I should buy the kit?

your advise much appreciated

If you already have the 17-40 I'm guessing you'll never use it. Even though it is slightly faster at F3.5 when you compare the 17-40 at F4 to the kit at F3.5 with IS I think you will find there is no comparison since you have F4 all thru the zoom range and the kit it's gone at 20mm. The kit will be way out classed.

As mentioned if you went to sell the body with the kit lens it may be more attractive to a entry level buyer.

There have been a couple of threads regarding the IQ of the kit lens to that of the 17-40(from those who have both). Yeah, it has the F4 constant, but the kit lens is much easier to lug around compared to the 17-40, and it adds IS.

Right now on Amazon, the kit is only $73 more than body only. You can always try it out, see if you like it, and if it's not to your liking sell it on Ebay for probably more than you paid for it in the kit. But especially since you're using it as a second body, you might find it handy -- it's a very decent little lens.

$73 dollars for the kit lens with IS is daylight robbery. Buy One !.

If you want better glass the buy some but when you come to selll the camera later on you sell it with the kit lens.

If you have the 17-40 L, you don't need the kit lens.
I have the 17-40 and I wouldn't mind having a smaller, lighter, and IS on my camera for travel or casual. I'm just too cheap to purchase a lens in the same focal length I already have, but if I was doing what you're doing then I would pay the little bit of money to have a convenient lens that has pretty good quality.

Yeah, he doesn't need it, but it would come in handy.

is there something going on with dpreview tonight? So far, it's been
12 hours since any of the forums posts have updated.

This is also a test just to see if I can post anything.
Looks like they are working on it. I just popped over because my usual forums (Open Talk, Pentax SLR) had nothing more recent than 12 hours. A few more recent threads appearing as I write.

Anyone suffering withdrawal symptoms?

Looks like the contents of some of the threads are updated, but the 'most recent post' info is not making it to the top level forum view.

Cheers.

Hope they get it fixed soon. It's kind of creepy.

Thanks Alan!
