Praise be to Sony for saving the A mount.
Love this - very efficient technique you got there, not a word
wasted, a sweeping generalization and a cast iron proof ('that's a
fact' - can't argue with that). I wait in dread the for day I have to
explain to my son that 'i was only following orders' when he's old
enough to ask what i did for a living... Oh the shame...
And to think you get all this from the fact that those philanthropic,
saintly folks at Sony failed to impress us enough for your liking
with their latest gift to the world. Here's to the selfless and
charitable souls at Sony who fight the good fight for the A mount in
the face of big evil businesses like camera review websites, asking
for nothing in return (except, perhaps, a small payment to cover
costs). Praise be indeed to little, plucky Sony; they are the good
guys, faced with the bullying might of a handful of 'journalists'
with test charts.

Hi Simon.

I have been following this thread and the other threads in the past about DPR being biased. It seems to me that the bone of contention falls on the discrepancy between the Pros & Cons, the Numerical ratings and the Recommendations given by way of a definitive judgment about a specific camera or lens.

The reviewer is, I believe, entitled to his/her "expert and informed" judgment about a product. May I suggest that these judgments be given on specific-standardized factors, be it numerical or descriptive, minus the definitive conclusion whether a product is "HR, HRj, R, A, etc." Maybe leaving this definitive judgment to the reader will avoid these heated controversies.

My $0.02.

This is my signature line, there are many like it but this one is mine.

Any plans to hire ken rockwell

:-)
Do you really want this? Then every Nikon gets a "Highly recommend", every Canon a "Recommended" and all other cameras are reviewed even if he never had one of them ;-))))))))))))))) ...

You made a picture...fine!

Does anybody know how Phil and Simon look like?

;-)

I only found a picture of Lars. And I only know that it´s he because I know his website.

Hi,

please don't forget that camera review is not an exact science.

There are too many factors to be considered when assigning a score, so it is will always be a little bit a subjective choice.

Personally, I find that this site reviews contain a lot of useful information and are among the best (probably the best) available on the web. But I also check other sites reviews and I find that user opinions can be sometimes useful.

In case of latest canon review, they gave the maximum score because of image quality, despite the slow raw shooting rate. However, the limitation was clearly pointed out so, if for you is a problem, you don't buy this camera, even if it got HR rating.

As I said, I believe Phli & C are doing a good job.

But Phli should accept critics with more fair play, in my opinion.

If you hed been a member of this forum for longer than 8 months you
would know that there has always been criticism of reviews and that
Phil and Simon were much less sensitive than they now seem to be.
That said, I agree that some of the critical comments about DPR have
been over the top.

Reviews are always an issue for most DSLR owners, be it Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, and even the late, great Minolta. I've been a lurker since the time when Kodak's FF DSLRs still were in vogue, but, yes, maybe I haven't noticed the criticism of reviews much. There were certainly more talk back then about other things photography than reviews.

I guess with more and more DSLR users coming into the fold and a number of them adding to the anti-DPR chorus, it gets Phil and Simon more prickly. I feel for them. You do something that's free for all, thorough reviews, the forum, and you get over the top criticism on having biases and such. I think a real bias would have been other brands than Canon or Nikon not having their own forums themselves. :D

DP Staff and reviewers....

Remember your statistics. About 5% of people are idiots and a* holes. This means with millions of users, you will have tens of thousands of a holes using this site.

Don't waste your time responding to them. Keep on doing more good reviews. Anybody with half a brain knows what you mean by the ratings, and anybody with half a brain who reads your entire review of any specific camera alreay KNOWS what recommendation you will give a camera... based on all the excellent data you bring to the table.

You're always going to run into a bunch of people who generally have accomplished nothing in their lives who will gain great satisfaction from throwing stones at somebody who has accomplished a great deal. It's very theraputic for them. Just ignore it.

DP review is and remains the best site on the web. The fact that the a* holes remains sort of proves that as well.
