I see with joy that the upgrade will be available on CD

That good new for us all, I am sure nobody wanted to send the
carmera in to Minolta. The price looks OK too. Lets NOT spread it
around on the net, we might need Minolta to add/fix more things in
the future. They have priced it right and I for one think we should
pay up.

I don't want to sound cheap but why should I have to pay for upgrade when I have owned camera only 2 months. This should be covered under warranty.

Bill

Let's spread it around the net!

This is the first time I know of any company charging a fee for the firmware update to fix the problems of its digital camera. They should have the new firmware and the new DIVU on their website available for download by us who paid good money for their products.

Hello,

I think it is Admirable that Minolta does this: I haven't seen any other Camera manufacturer doing it: I have had Canon's and Nikon's with bugs but no upgrade. Minolta fixes problems and offers a wealth of enhancements to lengthen the life and satisfaction with the camera. They certainly bought my loyalty for some time to come :-)

What part of your Dimage 7 is broken that this "upgrade" would fix? Looking at the list of inprovements you get from the new firmware I don't see anything in there that has been mentioned in the spec of the Dimage 7 that I have had for about a month now, so I don't see how I could possibly claim a warranty repair to get get the upgrade. Might as well ask Minolta for a 7i while your at it since it has all of these features too plus a few extra ones.

If your camera is under warranty and you install a priated copy of the upgrade then you might find out that you no longer have a valid warranty. What if Minolta keep records of who has bought the upgrade and you send in a camera with it on, and you don't appear on their list? Do you think that they will honour the warranty or even fix the camera for you? I know that I wouldn't.
Let's spread it around the net!

I don't believe what I read!!! I hope people freeze you out!

Minolta Imroves the camera by this upgrade: There have been other free upgrades to fix bugs (1.2.1 at least). See my other posting.

I certainlly agree with you and Geir that we each should pay this very reasonable amount for a substantial upgrade from Minolta. (If improvements are made as new features, it's an upgrade, not bug fixes and we should not expect this to be free from Minolta. I do agree bug fixes should be free!

Please note that in earlier posts that Minolta USA had closed their California service station/office and that Minolta Corp. was also down-graded from A to B rating by a financial group. We certainlly don't want Minolta to slide into further decline and not be there to support our current and future cameras when we need them, ccorrect? It does take resources and money to develop and administer new products and upgrade features. Lets be good customers and pay for what we get so Minolta will be around as long as we need them.

If you've had your D7 for only 2 months that means you bought it well after the release of the 7i had been announced and just when the D7 prices had begun to drop drastically. And now you want a free upgrade to make your camera work like a 7i.

Hmmm, I think you do sound cheap.

Jim

I agree and will also buy the upgrade. Hopefully this will give my D7 a new lease of live and stave off my craving for a D60. If it lives up to it's press then it should solve the majority of my problems with the D7.

The added benefit of buying the upgrade is that if something goes horribly wrong with the upgrade then you can send the camera back to minolta to be fixed.

Wouldn't like to send back a pirated copy.

Let's try and encourage everybody to buy this rather than spread it round.

Phoned Minolra USA and talked to some rep, he checked on the upgrade and then told me he had nothing on it at this date. Said to keep an eye on their web site for the announcement.

I got to pay almost full price for my D7 nearly a year ago and am happy to purchase the upgrade.

Enjoy all the threads from the P&S people whining about the batteries and the focus. I've taken seveal times more photos in the past year with my D7 than I ever did with a film camera. It's simple to learn, just read the book and practice, practice............

This is a totaly positive move by Minolta and I respect them even more for doing it......Only problem is that right now the online store is "unavailable".

I think they were probably overwhelmed with orders rightr off the first thing this morning.
Ray

It's a feature upgrade and I think we should all pay for it. The camera's work fine the way they are right now. The upgrade is just extra bells & whisles and I beleve that we should all chip in since minolta has done this upgrade for us. Even though they made a new product that is almost the same and is trying to sell them at the same time. Show you loyalty and buy don't spread it around.

Called and talk with support and the lady that helped me did not know about the upgrade. She is going to have a senior support person call me.

Just checked the Minolta website under "News".
States the coveted upgrade to be available "late Summer 2002."

I think the scope of this upgrade is unprecidented among camera manufacturers. Since nearly anything can be programmed within the limits of the processor, future firmwares are possible and should be encouraged. I think we should all support this effort by Minolta to make our cameras more useful. They won't continue if their work is not paid for. The possibility of bad firmware being introduced by open "sharing" should also
be considered.

Good Luck,

Pete

Yes, firmware updates on my Canon and for that matter, Minolta on D7 last update enhanced the existing camera. There is also the version 122 "update" which fixed bugs.
