I just purchased a D7i (in Canada) and have been following with interest the discussions on infrared photography.

Someone suggested (in the Olympus forum) that D7i owners should try infrared with the "night mode" setting.

Has anyone done this? With any success?

Cheers,

Jim.

P.S. I realize that I posted a similar message in the old IR thread, but it's so far down that I'm not sure that anybody saw it.

I tried this today as well as about 20 different combinations of things from B&W mode, Night Scene Mode, Text Program Mode, min. aperature, max. aperature, full-wide, full zoom, exposure compensation, contrast manipulation, white balance changes, and everything else I could think of plus combinations thereof. Bottom line is that D7i does not hack it for infrared shots. Every single exposure has a white circle in the center (which in some shots can clearly be seen as a sort of lens reflection such as you would get with lens flare). Aside from that, the long exposures required even get the shots limit the subject matter (i.e., doesn't do well on windy days and certainly cannot be handheld). For now, I'm sticking to my Oly C2100 for infrared. But so far, I love the D7i for everything else!

Thanks Mary, A bit disappointing, but like you I'm quite pleased with the 7i as a "visible light" camera and want the colour accuracy over IR capability.

I too have a c2100, but can't justify keeping it. It's hopefully going to sell on eBay.

I bought it in Burlington, Ontario for $1500 CAD. That's seeem to be what everyone is selling them for. Not much room for negotiation when they can't keep them on the shelves.

This store just got two. One was pre-sold. I bought the other. Now they have none!

If you're in the Toronto area, you should call around, both Downtown and Henry's were claiming that more would be coming in, although some of their allotment had been pre-sold.
