Hey Gang,

I've been away on vacation for a week, so I have lots of catching up to do. I hope I've been missed! Sure missed you guys and gals.

My vacation took me to the lovely seaside community of Seagrove, Florida. Seagrove is on highway 30A, between Destin and Panama City, Florida. It once was sparsely populated with a few old homes, but now it is a thriving string of quaint seaside communities. Unlike Panama City and Destin which are maxed-out with condos and hotels, the communities along 30A are comprised of mid-to-upscale individual homes.

Finding a secluded beach is becoming a greater challenge as these communities develop. But there are a number of parks and protected beaches that will preserve the look and feel of the beach of the past. This new gallery, Thirty-A, is my photographic impressions of the area. Hopefully there is a little something for everyone here. As always, comments, critiques, and questions are welcome.

Now, let me try to catch up on what I have missed here over the past week!

Jim... Your eye gets better all the time. I especially liked the seaside windows... simple but very elegant. Please expand on the differences you are finding with your E-10 vs. your Uzi. I've been playing more with my E-100.. I've found that it focuses quicker in ESP vs. spot focusing mode. As long as there is sufficient light it's been great. Just shot my 30th College reunion.. no artistic shots... but my friends and i are sure getting old. That came thru clear as day.
regards..

Nice photo's, I agree with you being from florida it is getting harder to find a nice beach that is not covered up with condo's. I have to go to pensacola this week hope to have time to make that drive.

gladys schetrompf,

If you get a chance, do take the drive! Eden House is on 98, about half way between the ends of 30A and is a fun and quick view of a beautiful antebellum homestead. There is great food and fun shopping at SeaSide too! Hope you have a nice trip. I have not been to Pensacola in years. Is the historic District still an interesting place? I also remember going to a restaurant/bar that had an aviation theme. Ring a bell?

Steve,

These two cameras are so different! I just love shooting with the E-10. I am still learning this camera, and this trip was no exception. I completely blewout the highlights on an entire series of shots of white waterlilies! Man I was so disappointed! But I was overall pleased with the others.

Still, the UZI is a great camera and is able to do many things the E-10 would not consider. We took a short trip into the gulf and I was able to get tack-sharp zoomed shots of my family with the boat bouncing up and down on the surf! Don't even try that with an E-10~

Thanks for the comments on the Seaside Windows. I took an entire series of these, about 10 in all. Good to know that someone else likes them. My family was unimpressed!!!!

Thanks again for looking and commenting.

HG,

Thanks for looking and commenting. Yeah, there are quite a few of those Southern Living Homes in the area. Really a beautiful place, but they are really going to ruin it if they develope it any further.

Julio,

Have you been there? If I remember the story right, the bar was owned by one of the retired bombers. It has been almost 20 years since I was there. Dang, time flies!

Not around where you're talking, but we had one in W.P.B. where I lived over a quarter of a century! ;)

... we've missed you Sandbox and of course you've brought back a bunch of great pictures (as usual, sigh...). It looks like you're really getting the hang of your E-10. I guess I should put it back on my list of contending cameras.

The trip to the beach was delightful. What a fine job you did of capturing the place. You've got some beautiful shots in this collection. You've also managed to capture some really special light. My favorites are:

Eden House Reflecting Pool
Eden House Tree View
Sea Oates
Seaside Windows - I really like this one!
Surf at Sunset
Wildflower2

You're really learning how to handle the E10. I'm impressed (but not enough to buy one -- I've defected to Minolta: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1008&message=2845685 but I'm still keeping my UZi.

Well, Sir Jim, your new camera has taken you to new heights. There's a...what shall I call it?...maturity about these shots.

I really enjoyed your series of 'sunsets' and 'fancy boardwalks'.

All in all, stunning!

For the beautiful tour! Welcome back! Some of my favorites were mentioned by others.. so you know you've got a good thing going here. Glad you're getting the hang of your E-10 so well. Keep sharing. I have learned so much about composition from you and others on the forum..
