Sigma 24-60mm f2.8 / Nikkor 24-120mm f3.5-5.6..Or..Sigma 24-70mm f2.8?

Hello

I recently bought a D3 and I am now looking for a general walk about lens that I can keep attached most of the time. I am currently in New Zealand for the best part of a year and am looking for a FF lens that will help me record my travels. I know I should be buying the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 but I just can't afford it at the moment and seeing as I plan on having the D3 for a looooong time I may purchase that lens when the funds are forthcoming. In the mean time I would appreciate any input on which on of these I should get.
1- Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Macro Lens.
2- Sigma 24-60mm f/2.8 Lens
3- Nikkor 24-120 f/3.5-5.6 Lens.

I currently am using a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM even though its a DX lens which is limiting me to 5MP's but I do have a FF 70-300 f/3.5-5.6 as well for the D3. So I wish to get one of the above three to compliment my new camera.

I don't know how these lenses compare to each other but as a starter why don't you sell the Sigma 30 1.4 and buy a Nikon 50 1.4? Not to knock the Sigma at all but there must have been a reason you bought that prime for DX and you'll have a similar field of view and the same fast aperture for your D3... (Or just keep the Sigma if you still have a DX body). Just a thought.

I am in the same boat with you looking for the right lens
I have done a lot of research on many of the same lens
I have gotten very mixed reviews
I hear that the new sigma 50mm1.4 is the best in class
I hope some one hear will give both of us some answers
good luck
 
from what ive heard and read the 24-120 performs very well on the d3

and the range is great for all round photography i would pack a 50 mm 1.4 for some lowlight shots and street photography

there you are great combo

another lens to consider is the 24-85 2.8-4 from nikon also a very good lens but not so well known
and for travel the tamron 28-300
look into it

Thanks for the replie's guys, looks like I'm leaning towards the 24-120Vr at the moment...still though would like a faster lens than 3.5-5.6, only a pity the 24-120 doesn't come in f/4 or f/2.8. It's hard to choose between those three! Have been checking out reviews of lenses on Fredmiranda.com and slrgear.com too, not making things easier....
