I read that you can use a Nikon DK-21M 1.7X magnifier on the A300. Has anybody tried it? I haven't gotten my A300 yet, but I'm a little concerned about the .74 view finder. Will this help that?

I'm wondering the same thing. I heard you can also use the Olympus magnifier. Which one is better, the Olympus or the Nikon magnifier?

I have bought Pentax O-ME53 viewfinder magnifiers, which I use on my A700 and A350. They offer 1.2x magnification, fit perfectly and show the whole viewfinder. I believe the Nikon will only show the centre of the viewfinder. The 1.2x doesn't sound much, but it makes all the difference to me. I got them from B&H for $34.95 - well worth it for me.

I have used the same one on my A100. Fits fine, works fine, except when I wear glasses. But that is the same for all viewfinders.

Just remember to slide it up just a bit if it covers the eye-start and causes a bit of trouble. It will work fine then.

I have the Pentax on the A350 and it really helps in doing manual focus. It also gives you a little extra relief from the protruding A3xx LCD.

I have the Nikon, which is 1.17x magnification. The Pentax is 1.18x magnification - virtually the same. They both slip on in replacement of the standard eyecup. Both can be used with the auto eye-start focus, if you raise them about 1 mm. With the Nikon, you get the full screen just like the Pentax, but those with glasses may not be able to see to the edges (I can just barely). Thus, sometimes, I use the OVF without the magnifier, and sometimes I use it when I want a bigger field.

I believe both are more easily fit than the Olympus. You can visit DK's article about them at http://www.alphamountworld.com .

Anyway, either the Pentax or the Nikon are good additions, and give you a .87x OVF rather than the default .74x.

Just bought the Pentax from Bristol Camera for A350.

yes I can confirm it does make difference for manual focusing.I have my glasses on my nose all the time and it is not a big deal.

I think that having magnifier is an improvement and wonder why sony did not get it yet.The Pentax one looks well made and on A350 feels fine.your chick might be pushed off the lcd slightly so less dirt on it too.

Got the pentax and no, no image degradation and better all around than the standard viewfinder cup. I never use the eye start (it's so annoying), so i didn't even have to adjust it and slipped it right on. Fits great, looks good and makes it easier to focus.

Sony A350 w/Tamron 18-250mm and Sigma 105mm Macro

Today (after a 6 week order lag - yes reaaly) I got an Pentax ME53 eyecup for my A350. After reading much about it I am very pleased with the view it provides. If anything it seems a little sharper. It's also more comfortable with & without spectacles than the standard eyecup.

I am pleasantly suprised that the eye-start sensors still work both for AF (which I normally have OFF) and for switching off the view screen. Others have reported the sensors blocked or needing to slide the eyecup a tad. I was even prepared to perform some re-engineering with a dremmel, but no need :)

... and O/T:

While reading the enclosed paperwork, I had a little chuckle at a pamphlet which outlined the impact of the merger of Pentax & Hoya.

Where did you purchase your magnifier that it took 6 weeks? I'll avoid that place. :)

I've read some topics about this O-ME53 where some users have mentioned that it vingnettes a little and also makes it difficult to see some of the LED information at the bottom of the VF. Have you noticed any of this?

hahahaha - I live in Perth (capital of Western Australia) and, despite contributing a large % to the economy, the rest of the country sometimes forgets about WA.

I could have ordered the item online and received it from the USA or UK in a week, but I like to support the local businesses too. Thankfully it wasn't an urgent purchase!

I can say for certain that there is no vignetting or obscuring of the LED display, when not wearing spectacles. I had expected a little, but was pleasantly suprised to find none.

Works fine on my A300, when I take out my glasses. With glasses I have to press them against the rubber to see thw whole frame and led info, a bit annoying but no so bad. View is bright and sharp.
