Hey,

I was wondering if anybody had any information on using the F707 in the rain. I know everything's supposed to be sealed, but could the moisture damage the camera?

Thanks

Do not use the camera in the rain! Not only could it damage the camera but it could shock you too! The only way I would use it in the rain would be with a plastic bag and only the filter exposed but even that is dangerous. The 707 is not sealed it has opening where water could leak into.

He's right. As a general rule of thumb, you should not take any electronic into a wet or even high humidity environment unless the product is made for that purpose. I got lightly sprayed by a garden hose while holding a video camera and it fried it right there on the spot.

I was walking between museums in D.C. when a sudden downpour happened. The camera was exposed to the rain for nearly a minute. As soon as I could get it under cover, I blew the water from around the controls and lens area. There was no bad effect that happened. Now I am not saying to go out in the rain with the camera. But at least a little bit of rain can be shed without effect. But on this matter your mileage may vary and my advice would be to not expose the camera to the rain at all.

Well, I used in on Franz Josef Glacier in NZ, in the rain too. My camera's been fine too. Of course, I did not take it out and let the rain soak in but I did manage to carry it in it's leather casing for an hour and then take it out for a couple of shots before putting it back in it's casing. There, I had two 'bad' conditions, rain and humidity ;p
Well, don't purposely try it though.

I believe that Sony sells a waterproof housing for the 707 so that it can be used under water and in wet conditions. I haven't looked into it myself so I couldn't say how much it costs, you my want to check out Sony's site.

Sony does not sell a waterproof case for the 707. A few companies specialized in waterproof casing makes them for the 707 but they cost a fortune. We are talking about the cost of the price and higher. Of course, these cases are mainly for divers.
