I really hope the image quality of this camera is acceptable, because it sure has a good feature set (for what it is). Some things I learned from the manual:

-Green button is (again) assignable
-Lots of user control over the range for auto ISO
-Can recover deleted photos!
-Some user control of sharpness, contrast, saturation
-Interval mode
-Live histogram!
-Potentially useful continuous AF mode (if it works)
-Manual WB
-Spot metering and spot focus options
-Can enable or disable optical zoom in movie mode - your choice!
-Can be used as an alarm clock :)

Plus all the crazy modes (smile capture, pet mode that knows the color of the pet) that don't matter to me one bit if the IQ is miserable. Here's hoping!

P.S. If you order from Amazon, be sure to watch the price for the next 30 days. If it drops, you can call and ask them to refund the difference.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for it. I got my W60 from Japan about a week ago. It came with a Jap manual. This little thing is packed with BIG stuff. I really love the smile capture hehehe, it's just like a invisible wireless remote shutter.

Hi AlphaAlex,

Do you mind posting more pictures taken with your new Pentax W60?

I'm considering to buy this camera for my next trip and my fiancee is wondering if the picture is any good. I need to show her some samples from this camera to convince her.

Also do you have any other camera to compare the size and weight? I went to my local camera stores here in Los Angeles but couldn't find any that carries this W60.

Thanks,

Hey!

Sure!

There are real samples at the pentax website, you may have seen them , at
http://www.pentax.jp/japan/imaging/digital/compact/optio-w60/ex.html/

so I thought to show you some shots that not every camera can do instead?

My two other cameras are SLRs. So the camera is very little and very very light to me LOL.It's also lighter than my previous Optio W30. Please see pic below, it's sitting on top of a CD, hope that gives you a bit of sense of size. Thanks.

I also find this website very useful, at least it convinced me to buy it :)

Excellent photos and good reference, thank you!

Thanks, AlphaAlex.

Good picture to show this camera capability.
Was it your kitchen sink? :)

Do you have more pictures using this camera in daylight and at night?

What is the highest ISO do you think is usable with this camera for dim light picture?

Sorry for so many question, but I read somewhere that you can adjust manually with this W60.
Is it fully manual adjustable like DSLR?

Thanks again.

Hey.

I think as long as you keep it under 400, it's all good. Water colour effect kicks in beyond 400. Yes, it lets you choose the ISO you want, from 50 to 6400 ( hehe as high as my Sony Alpha 700 ? ) You can even set the 'Auto max ISO' so that the camera will not go beyond the max ISO you chose ( just like my Sony Alpha 700 again ). Pretty cool eh.

It's Monday here, I may not have time for night shots until weekend, below are some 'candid' shots.

ISO 400

ISO 1600

ISO 6400

Nice shot, Alex.
I like your idea with that can. It really matches the bacground.
Man, you really utilize your sink to the fullest :) good for you.

BTW, do you want to start a new thread posting your pictures with this W60?

I think we're kind of hijacking the original thread with this.
Also because I have some other questions too.

Thanks.

Question: My W20 no longer works. When I turn it on, the on/off buttom lites up in green and the screen flashes and shows the permanent photo loaded there. Then it goes blank and it cannot be shut off unless I remove the battery.

Does anyone have any idea on what may be the problem?

Do all sellers of the W60 only offer the 15 minute battery and the standard SD card instead of the HDHC card that was recommended to me by one seller.
What is the standard package for the W60?

Thanks,

Hi Bruce,

I am sorry to hear about your W20, I doubt it is worth to get it fixed.

I am not sure what you mean by 15 minute battery?

The standard W60 package does not come with any SD cards, go for the HDSD if you wish, 2GB is more than enough for me.

Hello Bruce! The "15 minute battery" sounds like a typical line from a scam artist, who lured you in with a low price and is trying to sell you overpriced accessories. Chances are, if you don't agree to buy overpriced accessories, the camera will miraculously be "out of stock". Make sure that you check out the vendor at http://www.reselleratings.com .

Pentax website has information on what's included with the camera. I would recommend against buying a "package" built by a third-party vendor - they often add sub-standard components and stuff you don't need.

For cameras, I recommend http://www.bhphoto.com and http://www.adorama.com . If you see that camera sold for a significantly lower price than what they charge, it's probably a scam.

For flash memory, I recommend http://www.newegg.com .

Hope this helps!
