It was a jam packed 48 hours of reading reviews, asking questions, and trying out all the P&S cameras that I could locally. I ended up choosing the Sony H-50. I just ordered it from Berger Bros.!

I wanted a P&S for casual use in that I don't always want to pull out the big gun...D300/24-70 or 70-200. I also love the macro work I have seen from this camera!!!

I might be back around asking questions after I get it next week.

Great choice!

Since it's your "fun cam" you should consider sending it to me... seriously now... to have the nightshot firmware disabled (I include 74mm IR filter) so you can play with Infrared as well. Cheap. eMail me at [email protected]

You'll still be able to use it as a regular camera with the nightshot switch turned off. No risk of sensor dust since the modification doesn't involve the sensor or the hot mirror. The disablement of nightshot means the camera will have all normal camera functions available for use when in niightshot mode and the silly "night vision green" color cast will be gone. You'll love it!

You'll see people here post pictures from the very first H Camera... the trusty H-1 all the way to the new one, the H-50.

I had decided months ago to go with another brand or perhaps a DSLR because I was invited to do a wedding. When they told me that they couldn't afford to pay me at all, I decided to get the H-50 after reading and studying and testing out the camera myself. Somehow I came back to the H50!

You'll love the camera. Be sure to go to Sony's website sonystyle.com and under customer support, find the H50 camera and download the manual so you can get a heads-up for when you do receive the camera. It's a PDF file so you can save it to your computer.

Glad you finally decided on the H50. It's an amazing little camera. I have used it for so many occasions it's unreal.

Thanks for the welcome! Whilst I love the D300 it is for "work" mostly it seems. It is sad that I have that big investment and don't use it as much as I would like with the family. I think the H-50 will be fun and a breath of fresh air...maybe some new inspiration.

I will look at the manual. I should have the camera Tuesday! Berger Bros. said that only had one and it was a "open box"...I hope there are no issues. He said he thought it was only opened to show someone as it looked still perfectly brand new. Nothing else in the box had been disturbed. Is there a way to check the shutter count?

Thanks for ideas and suggestions about the night vision. I will try the camera out and I may email you in the future.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I don't buy much on line, so I was wondering why wouldn't you just go to Best Buy or Circuit City.

It's the same price and you get it right away.

Also, I love my H50 and am sure you will like yours. Post some pics soon.

Well...I live in a relatively small town and our Best Buy doesn't have it. I got free shipping and no sales tax. Plus he knocked another $20 off because the seal on the box was broken. I can wait until Tuesday....yes, I can wait...I can wait.

I haven't actually held the 50...I tried the 10 at Walmart.

Anyway...that is the reason.

Hi Beth,

I bought mine online too, and WOW, am I happy with it! I've been posting lots of my shots on here for the past few weeks, but if you haven't seen them, just click on my website to view. No problems at all with the camera. Image quality is outstanding.

The reason I bought online is that I live on a small remote island off the Newfoundland coast, therefore no place to buy it without a ferry crossing and a whole day wasted. I got it through the Dell website at a good price. You will LOVE this camera.

I've been very busy selling my prints, and I can't believe that I get to do something I love doing, and make money at the same time!
Anyway, enjoy your new toy!

Glen...so are you telling me all those pictures on your website are taken with the H-50? Those are some really impressive shots!

Beth

Hi Beth,

A few of them are hangers-on from my old H7, another fine Sony product. As much as I like the H7, I think the H50 is even better.

All you have to do is set it to "P" mode, keep the ISO at 80, and start shooting; the results are simply amazing. Even at ISO 80, I have been able to take all of those sunset pictures, some in very low light, and hand-held, and still turn out great. I have not even had a need for a tripod, even with the stitched panoramas in bad light.

Of course, it helps that I am surrounded by such beautiful scenery here in Newfoundland!
