i made an earlier post but it was a little confusing. my current problem is.. i have the d300, using two lenses that both have an aperature ring. the first lense is a nikon 50mm f1.8, the second lens in the sigma 105mm f2.8 macro. Both lenses have autofocus. now i go into enter non cpu lens data and input all the figures correctly, and attach the lens and select it with my function button, but when i move the aperature ring it reads F-EE on the camera unless the aperature is at its minimum which is like f32, so i am unable to use the aperature ring on these lenses. is there something different i should be doing or am i unable to use the non cpu lens option for these lenses? any suggestions would help!

Sounds like these are both CPU lenses, so no you shouldn't be using that menu for these lenses. There is, I believe, a menu option that will let you use the aperture ring to set the aperture instead of the command dial but you'll have to look in the manual for it. Otherwise, just attach these lenses leave them at min aperture and set the aperture with the dial on camera.

Hey Fire --

Both your lenses are AF? Are these lenses produced within the last 10 years? You shouldn't need to touch the 'non-CPU lens' stuff. If these are your first 'Non-G' lenses -- that is they have aperture rings -- you need only close down the apertures(f/22+ and lock them if possible -- on the Nikon there should be a little orange switch) to allow the camera body to control the aperture. Otherwise you must work in Aperture Priority or Manual mode and use the aperture ring to control exposure -- otherwise you will get the 'EE' error.

Cheers,

You can not use program or shutter priority. You either need to set your D300 to manual or aperature priority. Then it will work.

I think the two lenses you mentioned are AF lenses..just mount on camera and away you go..

if you're using manual lenses, then it's a different story..you have to change the Exposure Mode on Camera to "M" and focus mode to "M".

in this configuration, you can set aperture with the aperture ring on lens and shutter with the main command dial on camera..

good luck

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, these are brand new lenses with the aperature rings. Even when i set it to "M" manual and "A" aperature priority it will still read F-EE, so i guess i will just lock the aperature to full and control it from the body.
thanks again for all the help and suggestions
