Carl,

Since you apparently have some connection at Sony could you please get them to fix the most egregious bug in the Alpha system? I'm talking about the one where they still illuminate the rear LCD when my eye is at the view finder. I run into this at every dance recital and it drives me crazy.

Sorry to rain on you parade but I getting desperate ;)

I am simply looking for a new camera, an ACCEPTABLE update to my 7D.

Has nothing to do with needing more bells and whistles!

I respect your comments, but IMHO the A700 is a more than worthy successor to the 7D! I still have a pristine 7D which I still admire, but the A700 is at another level.

I often wonder if folks with we sites sometimes drop bombs on other web sites to generate traffic on theirs? That is how money is made right?

Just wondering.

I think there is truth in what both of you are saying. Most (not all) amateurs don't have the knowledge or skills to get the most out of the equipment that they already have. They see what the pros are doing and what they are using to do it. It is so much easier to upgrade the equipment than to upgrade the skills. Professionals, presumedly, have the skills to make use of the better equipment. Two of my other hobbies are golf and fly fishing. These hobbies are plagued with the exact same mentality. How much easier is it to buy the driver that Tiger uses, than to spend years taking lessons and hitting thousands of balls, or how much easier to buy a $1000 fly rod than to perfect your casting skills and and knowledge. For the person who has done the work, these tools make a real difference in the quality of their output. For the rest of us, not so much.

Just for fun!

Very true it has improoved in some areas, just not enough for me and my money. Glad though that there are a lot of "beta" testers out there of the Sony cameras so that the a900 will be even better!

If I were to make a guess about 6/30 being important, here it is. Sony Style is already taking pre-orders for its new 58 flash. My guess is that tomorrow they will be taking advance orders on the A900. We will then finally know the price ($2000?), and full specs.
That's my guess, time will tell
