Sony bashers' motivation?

...I'm one of those bashers but not because I think that Sony's
DSLR's are better or worse than the competition. I detest the Sony
Corporation and avoid all of their products..televisions, clock
radios, game consoles....you name it....if I can. They're a
malevolent entity in the corporate world with no scruples and no
self-restraint when it comes to maximising profits and marketshare.
Yep, I heard Sony's clock radios send out subliminal signals that lead you to buy CDs distributed by Sony/BMG. One day I came home and to my absolute horror and disgrace I noticed I had bought a Kenny G and a Jessica Simpson album - bad, bad stuff.

Thankfully every time I check the price I have to pay for my Canon ink cartridges (Canon was so selfless to put chips on the cartridges so you can't refill them yourself) it reminds me not to buy anything from that company again. So I guess Canon is not half as evil.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
I think this post exemplifies the problem that Sony has. Sony is
such a widespread company that makes so many products, and people
take it so personally when a product fails on them, that Sony has
quite a challenge in keeping people happy. Having worked in customer
service for years earlier in life, I'm accustomed to products from
big name brands failing. Taylor guitars, Oakley sunglasses, Boss and
Line 6 guitar pedals, Marshall amplifiers, Fender Electric guitars
and amps, Nike watches, The North Face outdoor equipment, any brand
of high end PA equipment, etc.... I've seen customers storm off with
such disapproval of these items that you'd swear that they're the
worst made products in the world, but they're not. When a consumer
saves hard earned money to buy this stuff, they expect perfection,
and, frankly, NO high end equipment manufacturer is able to do that.
To me it's silly to say, well brand X is awful because I bought this,
this and this, which all failed. You have to look at the overall
numbers to get a good glimpse of who is making quality equipment, and
Sony is usually at or near the top of reliability in most things that
they make.

So, basically, there are a few posters that got burned by Sony, and
they make it a point to bash the brand whenever possible, but it's
because of personal experience, not a long view, and they shouldn't
be taken seriously. The same kind of people exist for Samsung, LG,
and yes....even Canon.

The other kind of Sony hater is around because they hate Sony's
coporate mentality, which is hilarious, because what DSLR maker isn't
a huge corporate entity at this point? I'm sure Canon is around to
feed the poor, lol.

p.s. dpreview is about the ONLY review site that doesn't recognize
the A700 for it's image quality ;)

Then not one, but TWO vaio laptops failed on me... Should have
learned with the first, but I kept trusting Sony. Not anymore.
Did you drop your laptops? Most laptop failures are result of carelessness.
I have a Sony laptop I bought in 1999 and it is still running.
I believe Sony will start flooding the market with models that have
very little difference between them (A100, A300 & A350) and keep
going for the easy sale (lotsa megapixels) instead of actually
helping people shoot better images.
You need to know more about the different between Sony camera range rather than that assume they are all the same.

May I suggest you to read the following article before your bashing?

http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2008/05/26/which-sony-alpha/
Sure, they have Zeiss on their side, and that means a lot, but I
honestly dislike Sony's approach to mass market products.
Unfortunately, most of today's product are mass produced except a few very expensive ones. I don't see how mass produced product can be inferior since they can still carry the quality.

Sony brings to mind for me the ruthless Daniel Plainview character in
the movie 'There will be Blood' and yes I'm aware of the possibility
that Sony has a stake in the rights for that movie or that the
cinematography was created with Sony equipment.

You've just described the majority of major corporations.

It's sort of like Toyota touting itself as eco friendly by pushing the Prius, but simultaneously fighting tooth and nail against more stringent emissions and gas mileage standards. They want to maximize profits and market share.... like most corporations.

Agreed. I have no problem with people's complaints of corporations, but singling out one big corporation over another is generally laughable. They all have the same motivations.

It seems like people are more passionate about their equipment than they are about their photos. That is sad. Bragging rights about sales, reviews, rankings is not the way to think about photography. If a magazine gives out a bad review, are your photos really bad that day? If the next magazine gives a good review on the same camera the next day, are your photos all of sudden great that day?

Do you argue with a friend because he doesn't drive the same brand of car that you do? I look at photos in a different way. It is the person that makes a great image, a camera only records it, it can't "see" it. The photographer has to "see" it.

I always laugh went people see a great set images and immediately want to know...what camera?..what lens?...what settings? I guess they figure they can just buy the same camera, the same lens and use the same settings, that they will be a great photographer too..heheh. There are many camera stores, but there are no "skill" stores.

It would be so much nicer if people realize that all the modern equipment works well. But there is no "skill" feature built in. All the talk about 'wars'..'we will show them!'..."our camera kicks their butt!', makes no sense at all in the real world of actual photography. All the "pride" fighting on the forums looks like kids are typing it.

Have pride in your photos and photo skills, not in the tools you are going to replace as soon as that next 'great' camera shows up...heheh. So many people blame the equipment, that is normal. It's human nature to pass the blame. The "If I only had that new camera, I could take great photos!" excuse gets really old.

Now a lot of people can start flaming me...heheh. I know the 'techies" outnumber the 'artists' about 10 to 1 on these forums., but artists will take top prize every time in the real world of photography. "Specs" against "talent"? What would you choose?

Gear=A camera with a lens.

Hi,

I am not posting this in order to "bash" Sony. It is just my report of what happend to me. You may draw your own conclusions.

I purchased the alpha 100 early on and bought the SAL 1680 CZ as soon as it became available for 659.95 USD from B&H. It had severe back focus problems that took a while for me to see what the problem with images were. I sent the lens to Laredo repair 3 times over a total of 3 months. Finally I received a call from a technition offering me my money back. He reported they could not repair the lens because they could not obtain the parts needed. (It would cost 699 USD to replace due to the new SURE plan) I took the money and received a check 3 weeks later. I reason they are not fully committed to their DSLR and lens division if they cannot repair one of their CZ lens. I sold all my gear, 3 lens and alpha 100 and abandoned plans for the 700 and possibly the upcoming 900. I have since moved to another camera line and am finding my life goes on quite well without Sony. Have to admit I do return to keep up with this forum as I miss the mystery and fun of the new player on the block.

something like 25cents a post
Suddenly we get a new crop of Sony bashers on this forum. E.g. a700
v K20 threads etc. On closer inspection many of the bashers do not
have a Sony, and who knows what they do have...we never see any
photos from some of them.

Do they have a vested commercial interest in discouraging Sony
purchasers? Do they think they can score a point on those who have
already bought (and probably are not contemplating a change for a
couple of years anyway).
.....
let's go shoot some photos!!

Natural, the Way Photo Should Be

and I have ~$ 2200 to spend. If I answer----D300 + the vertical grip is your best bet because it can do 8fps which is benefitial for sports. That is neither bashing nor saying anything positive to Sony but it is my answer.

Cheers,

José
making a case for the other camera is a fair proposition.
...have gone on record as stating that this is unacceptable to them.
IIRC, the slogan was "post positive about Sony or do not post at all".

The way i become a Sony DSLR user which by the way is the only Sony equipment i own at the moment. You see i was A user of Canon P&S mainly the S1 & S2 series cams. The S1 worked beautifully and is still working to this day with another family member. The S2 well that is another story for the 12 months or so I had it it was in with canon for 6 months getting repaired 3 times in total for three different faults. The last time i got it back it lasted 2 weeks so I throw the bloody thing away. At the some time i also had a Canon printer that stopped working on me 2 times I got it repaired under warranty and then gave it away also to a family member. Since this experience i have vowed to never buy another Canon piece off equipment so I am opposite to some of the posters in this thread.

So I guess these companies are all huge corporations who pump out millions off different pieces of equipment and some off it is bound to be faulty no matter who makes it . It is just a matter of which one is going to burn you because they will all do it in a blink of an eye.Because the bottom line off the mighty dollar is all that matters to them.

Is this an excuse for me to go out and bash the canon brand in there forums of course not as that is not what i would do but i suppose some people get off on these kind of things,
Small things amuse small minds.

Web anonymity + misguided fanboy enthusiasm = poorly worded rants for/against Sony, Pentax, et al.

FWIW, I am tickled pink that a totally new player (Sony) has chosen to enter the DSLR market. All users of all brands will benefit from features and capabilities that result as the market adjusts and strives to gain share. I loves me some capitalism...

I'll still be shooting my K10D for a while, though.
