Does anyone know how to get this effect? blows me away every time...

Hey,

Thanks for the links.. So many beautifuk pics... I knew Pirandi works, not others.

A few points from my side.....

Possibly except for a few days in the year and only in North East region, nowhere in India 4 am there is Sunrise. Sun rises around 6ish in Summer, 7ish in Winters.

Another observation.... all the links show sun and the beams at much higher location than sunrise anywhere in the world. The timing of the photographs is certainly much after sunrise ..or towards evening.... much before sunset.... Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

I have never been to Indonasia, may be this lght exists, I can't say. But I still strongly feel that almost all images in the links you gave are manipulated. Look at Pam's workflow, Rarindras tips... they all say the same thing... it is manipulated.

I have seen sunrays through smoke in very urben locations too. In the heart of cities driping through some tree, it looks beautiful.....

But in these Indonation pics case, even Rarindra has given tips about cutting figures and pasting them on some scene .... what about that???

My only argument is that these images are manipulated and it is impossible to get the exact colours and light lke this in reality... [ Some of teh images in your links clearly show extremly increased saturation too]

Glad you visited India, but unfortunately you have no idea what
beauty you have missed. You can only see this real early in the am, a
very common sight for those that ride horses for a living, as they
have to get up at an ungodly hour of 400 am.
It is called the golden light.

In any case, my response to your post that you did not see, whereas
many others have, including me, here are many images from that same
country of Indonasia, only posting these. I can also post from many
other countries as well, but suffice it to say these are sufficient.
I have quite a few, shot with Leica on film, which is too much
trouble to scan and post

There are magical places all around, such as these, enjoy.

thanks so much for posting this but it seems the file has been blocked by you send for being dloaded too often. Any chance you could post ot again?

hi guys..

can someone explain the save and load selected subject in step 2 and 7?
do i save it by right clicking and save as new channel?
Here are the 8 steps that were published:

1) If you're converting from RAW, choose a warm toned WB before
heading into Photoshop.

2) Use your favorite selection method to select your subjects, and
save your selection to be used later. With the figures selected, make
a new levels adjustment layer. don't adjust it-just click OK, then
switch the blend mode to soft light, and lower the opacity to 50%

3) Make a new solid color fill layer. Choose Color: None, and click
OK. In the color-chooser, fill in the values R84, G66, B4. Click OK,
then switch the blend mode to Hue.

4) Make a selective color adjustment layer. Choose Colors: Neutrals,
and set yellow at 39% and cyan to -8%.

5) Make a new color balance adjustment layer. Set midtones to 0 -7
and -13. Then select the highlights and set them to 0, 0, and -3.

6) Make another levels adjustment layer. choose the blue channel, and
change the output level to 200 from 255.

7) Make a new blank layer and load the selections of your figures.
Fill the selections with black, change the blend mode to Coor, and
dial your opacity down to 50%. This will let your figures pop out
from the golden background.

8) If the intensity of the gold tone is overpowering, just lower the
opacity of your adjustment layers until your picture seems natural
enough.

There you go :) I believe this is the method he used for this photo.
This is the photo shown in the magazine.

I have come a little late to this thread, however, like everyone else I am blown away by images. The're so distincintive and vibrant, I would love try to do something similar myself.

I tried to download your file, but unfortunately was too late

Could you possibly post it again ?

Many Thanks
