How to turn off pop up flash on the D80?

I can only be as sure as the post by Phil I read a long time ago, in which he
said everything below the "--" is ignored. I can't find that post at the moment.
Try it yourself - search something below the "--", such as your own web
address in your signature :-)
I think you may be correct, BUT, if you edit your Profile the
following comment follows the Signature field, "(Automatically
appended to new messages. PLEASE DO NOT list
equipment in your signature as this adversely affects searching".

with the flash closed It does NOT pop up in P,S,A, or M modes.

It does in Auto, portrait, close-up, and night portrait.

Still, even if the dpreview search engine does strip off everything below the two dashes, other engines does not. Such as for example Google. That may however be off lesser concern...

Google appears to exclude what follows the "--" also.
I just tried it with a few items in random signatures.

Here is the post from Phil where he says equipment in the signature
does not affect the search:

If you say you read it, that's good enough for me.
Thanks Brooks - I really appreciate that!
It wasn't all that hard to find, and now I have a searchable reference in the
subject line for when this question comes up again.

Hi.

I get that probably the search function does exclude the signature, but the only way to know is a forum posting from last year. And why does the instructions when entering a signature say to not put any equipment in it?

Cheers.
