I have the new Tamron 28-300 XR Di lens with vibration control. I am wondering if anyone else is having the same problem I am having. When I am taking photos that require me to point my camera on a downward angle, the lens slowly zooms out on its own. When pointed almost straight down, the lens zooms out quite rapidly. I find I'm having to hold the lens to keep it from zooming out.

Can't answer your question, but perhaps Tamron customer service can. Here is a link to their website and a customer service email address if that helps.

Zoopm creep is a common problem with lenses that have large zoom ratio and lenses that get longer and shorter when zooming in or out.

If Tamron can get it fixed by fastening some screws, expect it to be temporarily.

So we have either zoom creep (Nikon, Tamron) or too stiff situation (Sigma) in superzoom range. Perhaps to look into Nikon lens forum and some genuine fixes people have - wrist bands etc, if that bothers you. As mentioned in other posts, my Sigma 18-200 OS is failry stiff around 80 mm but that does not bother me as long as it is OK optically.

Aside from this, have you done some tests how effective is the Tamron OS/VR/IS system? The lens itself in its previous incarnation was well accepted, considering the range, your thoughts?

cheers
