I ordered my F707 last week, and will get it any day. Thanks to this forum and the price match tip for saving me about $400! Here's my getting started questions...

1. Since Memory sticks are on sale right now for about $85 for a 128 MB, I am going to buy one, but wonder if I should buy two. How many pics can you store on a 128 MB memory stick?

2. What are some "must have" accessories? I am moving overseas in a few months, and if I don't get it before then, I won't get it for at least a year! Please give me some tips.

3. Has anybody used the wide angle converter lens? Is it worth $145?

4. anybody found any cases that fit good, but cost less than the $90 one sony has made for the F707?

Thanks for any help you can provide. This forum has already helped me tremendously!

Linda,

Congrats on the F707, it is a great camera.

Re M/sticks, $85 is a tad higher than regular sale prices for a 128,
but not tooo bad :-)... WildBill suggests newegg and you should be
able to get similar prices at other online stores.

Anywhere in the $60.00's is a good price for 128Mb. Less than $60.00
is excellent. CompUSA runs regular specials on MS 128Mb media.

Depending on your shooting habits, you should definitely have 2 MS.
There will be times when you are away from your PC/laptop and unable
to download a full MS but still need to do more picture-taking.

You will be able to store 51 F707 images on a 128 stick.

Ritz ( and others ) sells a very nice, black lightly padded canvas DSLR
case for about $20.00 ( make is Quantary )

Re other accessories, you might wish to consider a SONY MS reader
for downloading images into your computer. Also, Belkin has just come
out with a multi-format card/MS reader, ( in case you ever upgrade to
another digicamwhich uses a different storage format ! ) It takes MS,
CF, microdrive, smartmedia ...

The one catch with the SONY MS reader is that it won't work on a
Pentium 4 computer and sometimes XP can give it problems,too...

Good Luck with your new F707 toy,
Keith

Linda,

buy.com has Lexar m/sticks for $57.95. If you purchase over $99 on their site (which usually has great prices for everything) you won't pay any shipping and handling. I just purchased two sticks for my new F707.

Good luck,

Jason

Protect your investment, for less than $50 you can buy three things, first a skylight filter to mount on lens, a LCD protector, not a nesscessity but for $8 the da protector jr @ http://www.daproducts.com/dpjr.htm is worth it, and of course some type of bag for the camera.

Thanks for all the tips! Here I thought I found a bargain on the memory sticks! Fortunately I hadn't bought them yet!

I don't think I'll need the MS reader since I have a Sony Vaio laptop...it should take them directly into its MS slot.

THis forum is fantastic and fun. Can't wait to contribute some value to it myself!
