It is very easy to find the entrance pupil.

Here are two methods:

1. Look into the lens and the aperture you see IS the EP.

You can then by looking into the lens from different directions, e.g. by turning the camera, find the plane of the EP.

2. Measure when two objects, at different distances, do not move relatively. when turning the camera.

This is more cumbersome. It needs several iterations. It is (maybe?) more accurate though.

I use method 1 - it is good enough and very easy and fast.

NOTE: the entrance pupil might move while turning the camera. So - at least for a wide angle lens - there might be no exact point to turn around.

I thought you probably had but I didn't see it posted in an earlier post about how to do sphero panos. Care to share? I'll do it myself when I get home but having been on the road for 3 months I haven't yet done it.

I've been shooting everything freehand and have had very few problems but knowing what the ep is for the use of a tripod would be helpful.

thanks,

Mike

Yes Roland I know it is very easy as I have done it several times for several different lenses. However I did them all at home where I am not presently located so I thought if someone else had and would share the info I would graciously accept said info.

thanks,

Mike

from the sensor plane.

a good hint is the end of the lens when the camera is off, around at the end of that ring the epp is

thanks Stan. Up to your normal standards of precision I see. I'm grateful for your assistance and by the way I happen to see your first winter dp1 pano today for the first time and it is great as is all your work.

How come you didn't make it to iceland? Have you thought more about a trip over here?

BTW did you remove the lens from the camera? Do you happen to know where the shutter is in relation to the sensor plane when the lens is extended?

thanks,

Mike
