Maybe I need therapy! I just won an auction for a new style 40-150mm from Cameta for $98. I already have have an older style 40-150mm, but my wife and I are going to Yellowstone in September and she will be using my E-300 with 14-45mm and 40-150mm. I reasoned that I would prefer that she use this new 40-150mm, because it's lighter, more compact, and I don't want the older one to get lost or damaged -- my wife is not the most careful person when it comes to lens care! :-)

I saw the current bid of $82 with 10 min. to go and figured if I could get it for $88, plus $12 shipping it would be a real bargain -- I got it for $86, plus the shipping. I do believe I have a slight case of Ebay 'Commit Button' Fever -- I need to stay away from that demonic site!!! Does anyone know of a support group?

God Bless,
Greg

I feel your pain. I just bought a vintage 50mm f3.5 macro zuiko to play with on e-bay. I'll stick it on my e-500 and see what happens.

E-bay can be very very addicting. Back when I used OM-1's and OM-2's, I had one night that I bought 3 flashes; only needed one - oops...
Fortunately I keep a paypal slush fund that the spouse doesn't know about.

If you find a support group, let me know!
Thanks
Steve

I'm surprised they haven't outlawed Ebay -- like 'crack'! I know it's only a matter of time before I go there and push the button on a 7-14mm -- I wake up in a sweat, dreaming about that lens. I need to delete the site from my 'Bookmarks' page! It wouldn't be so bad if I would go there and sell some of the equipment I'm not using, but I have a hard time doing that. I was making a spreadsheet the other day to provide and insurance record of equipment and serial numbers -- geeze, I hope my wife doesn't discover that list!

God Bless,
Greg

Well, what the heck. You can never have too many lenses!

Getting a lens for your wife is always an excellent rationalization for purchasing camera gear!

Sorry, I got that one. Actuallly it was $272. I am looking forward to its arrival next week.

In my quest to satisfy a need for a 200 mm lens I spent a lot of time and money on ebay in the realm of OM lenses.

Eventually I sold them all to finance the purchase of the 50-200. Haven't been on the site since.

Incremental lens purchases just result in more purchases.... Want the 50-200? Don't try to say the 40-150, or OM 200, or 70-300 will do it for you - just buy what you need. At least that worked for me.... :)

After successfully ignoring eBay since its inception until just only 3 months ago I find I am falling for the same problem .. filling out my collection of OM glass, for no particular good reason.

Yes I can use some of these lenses on my OMD's but perhaps I'm just collecting?

Last week .. the 28mm F2.8 (admitting to myself I've been wanting that lens since my film days) but then an abberation, the 75-150 F4, and then today a triumph, finally landed a 135mm F2.8 after being outbid twice.

There's a 1000mm F11 Zuiko up for grabs at the moment too ..

I don't know if you've noticed, but there are a lot of people in this forum spending (squandering?) their savings on some very expensive glass. $98 around here is not a heck of a lot different than a pack of Tic Tacs !!

Enjoy your new lens. As for me, I'm going back to my pricey, obsessive scheming:

Ha..ha...Chris

I was looking at your profile and could not decide who is worse. I have accumulated 8 lenses in less than a year! Fortunately ebay in Malaysia is hopeless with camera equipments ( I think Malaysians prefer to hoard rather than to resell equipment ). At this moment I can only look at ebay sites in the US and in UK and drool..... :)

....just got sniped on a new E3 on ebay-- went for $1350.-- I was fumbling around trying to up my bid but time ran out. I was looking for a 2nd E3 at reasonable price. Geez!

I'm pretty hopeless too-- 11 lenses-- and growing ( just did an inventory);> )

I'm fortunate in the sense that to my wife, one lens looks pretty much like another, so my purchases don't really stand out. Although she might be a little suspicious of my 600mm Sigma mirror; that definately is somewhat larger than my other lenses.

I kick myself because 5 years ago I had re-built my olympus arsenal with a purchase: $250 for an OM-1n, 28mm f2.8 zuiko, 50mm f1.8 zuiko, 85mm f2.0 zuiko and 200mm f4 zuiko, all mint, with filters, cases and boxes. Used them for a few years, but then started moving digital. Ended up selling them on e-bay piece by piece. All totalled I think they brought in about $700. Really wish I'd held onto the lenses.

But i'm trying to curb my spending to save up the money to buy the 70-300 zuiko. Then I'll probably be dumping some of my non-olympus lenses.

I'm really looking forward to playing with the 50mm macro. The final price (~$62 with shipping) was much easier to justify for a plaything.

I've read some of the threads on 'zuikoholism', and figure I have a mild case, kept in check by my limited funds. Some of the photographers here have huge budgets! And based on their images, they deserve every penny. I give my photos away - not a particularly good business plan...

THanks
Steve

If you are not running dual displays, I strongly suggest trying it. You can have multiple windows open, all to the same item, with various amounts pre-entered in for the bid amount. Use one window to constantly refresh the action. Have a clock showing that you've calibrated to e-bay time. With about 10 seconds left in the auction, select your best price from the open window. Click and cross your fingers.

And I never use the e-bay feature of putting in my max bid right at the start - that just drives up the price early. If it is still in my range with about 5 minutes to go, then I get interested.

Lots of cheap/free sniping software out there.

Just plug in the max you will bid and tell it to bid with 5 seconds or less to go and watch it do its stuff.

Oh dear. It happened again on the weekend, then again today.

The 135mm F2.8 ($51!)
The 65-200 F4
The 100mm F2.8 (can't wait to fit that one).

Gotta stop ..

Dang! So it's all you guys driving the prices up! ;)
