The D300 price just dropped AGAIN

This is the world of retail...a $40 price drop is nothing more than an incentive to stimulate business. It's simply a response to flattening sales as the product moves out of its initial early-adopter honeymoon.

Beach Camera has it for $1599.00, with free shipping. This price drop only tells me something is in the wings,,,,,,,,and they are clearing out some inventory.

I have a feeling the OP is pointing out the price drops suspecting there is some new announcement from Nikon around the corner (July 1).

I think some people were so eager to jump on me that they missed the point of the thread. B&H dropping the price twice in a short amount of time would suggest to me that something is coming down the pipe.

I don't own a D300 and I don't plan to buy one. My D200 still works well, but I am interested in a D700 (or whatever it is going to be).

yah, I would like to get a D700 too........

I'm in exactly the same position. My D200 is giving me great shots, the best I've ever taken, but hey! A FF camera, lower noise, etc etc! What's not to be excited about?

Price drops usually anticipate a new model. Looks like a fun season.

..although I have voiced some concern over exposure issues..over all, I'm totally amazed that I can get the camera that I got in my D300 for the price I paid for it! It's just an awesome camera. I've had it for a week and a half and I'm getting more excited about it by the day.

I would love to have something with the specs of D300, but I have let the forums here keep me from the purchase. I read and read, and it still looks to me like if I bought one, it would be more likely than not to fail with a problem that nikon cannot figure out how to fix. An undependable camera or even one you don't trust, can have millions of features and not be of much use. If the tide ever turns and folks can report a full cure or that newer models are not letting people down in the most important situations, I will rethink.

I figure that the extra money I spent was well-spent because a lot of photography ends up being simple time and experience with your camera. If I didn't pay an extra $150 while I waited for the price to drop, I wouldn't have had the knowledge that I've gained by spending the extra cash.

I 'm glad I didn't wait. I got my D300 when it first came out.

No problems at all and an overall excellent purchase.

Still a rip off price in UK for at around £979/ $1958 from most UK vendors, hopefully with the D700 (if it comes out and exists ) and the D90 being possibly announced and available later this year the price will fall even further, which would be most welcome for me at later date to pick one up after getting the big 2: 24-70 and 14-24 afs f2.8 lenses.

Just bought a D300 at Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport. Price £834 inc VAT and 2 year warranty from Nikon.

Purchased while doing an internal flight to Edinburgh. That was from Dixons who have a special VAT free deal on any flight in UK or out for that matter. Easily cheapest in UK.
