Announcement Monday

I had never thought of putting tape inside the body cap. That might
be a good idea if I can figure out a decent place to store the cap
while shooting. Normally all the caps go flying off and stay off
until the event is done.
I keep one lens cap less than lenses with me, so that I exchange the cap from the lens that is changed to the body to the one that I remove from the body. That way I never have an open lens cap around. And the "spare" lens cap can be attached to the body (f-mount) cap that is in the bag for reasons unknown (for unknown situations that might occur).

What do I gain? All my lens caps look like new inside, no-one has ever touched one inside with hand or any micro fiber cloth... and those are clean. But using 2-sided tape inside sounds perfect plan for making it even safer. Perhaps we will see round black 2-sided tape pieces soon sold in eBay and then in shops for this purpose!

Took the print-out into the dealer who has now gone very tight lipped.

Might mean he's afraid of being sacked, or that he knows this is a con, or that it is the real deal and - oh who cares.

Wait and see. Meanwhile back to trying to make some money from real images.......

That fits with the hint from my guy that something might happen before the end of the month.

Though why he said there might be an announcement as early as last Monday confuses me. Probably a little of the truth mixed in with over-optimism on his part.

Thanks for the info.

...and who knows if this really is the news we've been waiting for (though the print proofs were made to look very realistic) but good of you to re-post here to retract your earlier statement.

I'm not at all sure that this is the camera that my dealer was hinting at, but it would be more welcome for my purposes than the D3x.

There are various hints about meetings taking place with dealers next week including Nikonians, so perhaps there will be slightly more official 'leaks' at that point.

Not since the 1970s has Nikon announced a camera on a day other than
Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
That would make it Jul 1 which is Tuesday. That was earlier said to be the launch day.

BRJR ....(LOL, some of us are quite satisfied as Hobbyists ..)

After a 'lot' of pushing with a pro dealer over here (UK) that is
primarily a US dealer, I was told that an announcement was due before
the end of the month, and possibly as early as Monday, about a new
Nikon pro body.

I have no idea if they are stringing me along to keep my business
(and I confess I'm hoping for a D3x so that the D3 falls in pricing a
little further) but thought it worth repeating here in case Thom or
someone can confirm they've heard similar.

And of course, the alternative is that we just wait.....as usual.

Not quite sure why I'm still pushing this with my dealer, especially as a good deal of the audience here will most likely take a negative stance whatever is written.

However, the dealer has taken the print-out I gave them of the 'leaked images' and discussed them with a Nikon rep.

He did not expect any positive reaction, so the most interesting one was a refusal to deny the existence of the camera, and being told to wait until a formal Nikon briefing next week.

This could still be guerilla marketing, Nikon reps being no more the wiser than anyone else, or Nikon not knowing quite what to do now post-leak.

Nothing new, as from what I have seen, this now tends to happen with most major Nikon product releases; seems to me, it's all a part of their marketing, :-)

I never trust of ask my Camera Store Reps or Salesman about any future equipment.

It seams they all want to sale you what they have today in stock no matter how old it is.

I was asking one of the salesman about Nikon updating the 50mm 1.4 his response is that there is no reason to update it, it perfect as it is and tried to sell me the one he had in stock. I said will it fit on my D60(which i don't have but to prove a point)? He said uhhh yea, so I had to ask him specifically will the autofocus work, uhhh no.

And I'm not denying that I've taken over Nikon, but that doesn't mean I am.

I actually think the D700 is real based on those photos that were shown, but Nikon not willing to deny that it exists means nothing.

Ask them if there's a D6 in the works and they won't deny that either.
