Your best URBAN LANDSCAPE shot....and why?....

Nice view. The light pole (and to a lesser extent, the road) provides the urban element.

This one is my favorite:
Seattle (East Queene Anne & Lake Union) 735 KB -- FZ30

I had always wanted to walk out on the Lakeview Overpass and take a picture of where I used to live. Lighting was great and the sound of the float plane taking off brough back nice memories.

I really like the ship, the wide angle of the city, and the stillness of the water. The light is great! Too bad you can't get the sound of the plane in that one!!

What is the best feature of the Z30? I am not familiar with that one - I have always owned Nikons and the recent purchase of the FZ18 brings me here - that one has the ultra zoom of course.

Wow - that is a great pano shot - not only because it is a very good and clear picture but also because the streets are so interesting - I have never attempted that in PS.

Very nice!! The sky is beautiful and the building is very interesting - it appears celestial with those clouds!!

I am new here - having just gotten the FZ18. Prior to that I have always owned Nikons.

That picture was taken with available light - with the Nikon Coolpix 950 - that was their first digital camera and I still have it.

I like the shot because it shows how long the trams are and how clean everything is in Switzerland - and I thought it was an interesting perspective to show what it is like to ride in one.

That one was taken by the same camera in Lausanne on Lake Geneva - it is of the Chateau Chillon castle. I like that one because I found it interesting to show how the Alps meet the sea and the beauty of the old clock and walls.

As I am going through my album, I am seeing so many things I would do differently had I had the FZ18 and the knowledge that this forum and some of Bryan Peterson's videos!! Plus all of the pictures here have inspired me - especially the one of the weeds and the more dramatic ones of the buildings. I have a long way to go!!

That is a very nice shot - and good work to remove that post! This has been an interesting thread to be able to see so many neat places in addition to the good work!!

Did you use any special effects or filters? Or was that just available light from a sunset? It is very interesting and artistic!!

No cropping was done here. I altered the exposure a bit as it didn't suit my view of the shot. I had been out for a walk in downtown Seattle early in the morning on a gray day. The streets were only busy with the occasional worker headed for a shift somewhere and street people beginning to stir from their nightly resting spots. It was actually very peaceful despite the dirty gray environment. This truck sat behind an abandoned warehouse right across the street from the shiny new Qwest Field football stadium.

That is very interesting - and lovely - how did you do it?
I did it the old fashioned way, by doing a multiple exposure on film, then scanning the negative;-) I used a fine old XD5 35mm slr camera, which facilitates this.

I am sure it can be done in PSP or PS or some such, but I wouldn't know where to start, and so cannot help you in that regard. I'm sure that there are people on the forum who can enlighten us both on the method.

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the look and the comment. The FZ30 is the FZ18's uncle. What kind of Nikon do you have? Before I upgraded to the FZ30 in 2005 I had a CoolPix 990 (purchased in 2000). The CP990 was a great camera in its day. I am glad you liked the East Queen Anne panorama. I also think it is special. For some reason, there are shots that just turn out very crisp with the right amount of contrast and saturation. It must be the lighting. Come to think about it, the lighting is always the key element!

The tram shot is a nice one. Thanks for posting and keep it up. My advice: take the FZ18 with you wherever you go. it is not a pocket camera, but is is still fairly compact and give much better than pocket camera results. I almost always carry my camera in the car or in my backpack (on the motorcycle) and it seems there is always a photo opp. You can shoot 'em if you don't have the instrument with you.

Good eye. I like it but I am wondering why you didn;t shoot perpendicular to the building and leave a little margin/buffer on the right hand side? Anyway, I am in Seattle too (Leschi)... check my galleries. We are lucky to be in a "target rich" environment... the mountains, the water, the urban scene -- all in a nice compact area.

I actually did try a different angle on this shot. In the end I preferred a shot with the rough looking warehouse wall as virtually the only backdrop. I probably should have left more behind the truck, but I think I wanted to give room in the photo for the truck to 'drive' into.

Here is the other version:

Oh, I don't live in Seattle btw. I was visiting for a Mariners/Nationals baseball series.

I appreciate your comments!

Thanks for your nice words - and yes - I will have the FZ18 with me next time I go!! I really wish I had that with me that time - it is a recent purchase. Still can't believe all it does for just $249!! Which cameras do you have?
