only looking on DPR ?You must be joking. When 1D mark III had problem (AF mirror), even on limited batch
numbers, Canon admited it and tried hard to fix it.
Typical Japanese samurai. They pay success with seppuku tradition.
Let's be crystal clear: They released a camera that they KNEW had an
AF problem at the time of it's release. No ifs, buts or maybes. They
even told RG about the problem when they gave him a beta camera to
review, a month before they released the camera. Despite not being
able to fix the problem, or even find the cause, they released the
faulty camera. Hoping, IMHO, that they could fix it with firmware.
Unfortunately, it wasn't to be and the 'fix' actually required a
recall. But it took them 6 months to publicly admit there was a
problem, all the while continuing to sell the faulty cameras.
You really believe it was honorable for them to release a product
with a known fault, then not even admit there was a problem until
they had found the apparent solution?
And now, a year later with people still returning faulty cameras for
the 3rd, forth and 5th times, they still don't admit that there is
still a problem.
On the D300 DBS, maybe it's an issue and maybe it isn't. It does seem
there are some users experiencing it, but it's by no means all users
or even a decent sized minority. I think I've seen maybe 5 users on
the D300 forum complaining about it. Compare that to the number of
MkIIIs with a focus issue, or the still-unadmitted err99 issue and
the constant premature stutter failures in the MkIIs that were never
admitted as a fault.
--I choice it since they started out nice with nice AF lenses. Then the
digital era came and they had best products with best low noise and
AF capability. Sometimes miss the velvia time. But now got great low
noise time. Yeah, Indeed!
Why did you go with Canon?

I wouldn´t call a 10-22mm, 70-300mm IS "cheap basic lenses". I was referring to the 18-55mm both brands offer. This isn´t a choice - they force the customer to pay extra money for something that should be in the box.Cameras aren't cars, but they both are consumer items with low and
high level variants and thus the comparison is valid -- If I want a
cheap basic lens I may not want to pay extra for a lens hood that I
do not intend to use. Canon gives you the choice at this level -- as
indeed does Nikon as you just stated yourself.
--apart from that I've always been disappointed with canon prosumer
bodies until 40D arrived.
--I am basically retired .... I still do some work for a few special
clients and I still own a Canon but since 2007 my main camera has
been my H2 and H3's.
