I just purchased the UZI from CompUsa earlier this week due to all the positive feedback I have read on this forum. The only extended warranty the CompUsa was selling was the 2yr $79.00 one. I brought in the SKU for the $49.99 3yr and the manager agreed to sell me that one since it was showing up on the system. He told me that the 3yr warranty was a carry in repair not a cary in / repair / replacement. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I also would like to say I am a previous Kodak DC4800 owner (just sold it on ebay to get the UZI) and this camera beats my Kodak hands down. The Olympus forum has been a great source of info, without it I Never would have found out about this GREAT camera.

Thanks

What?? I just bought my 2100 and the $50 ext. warranty this week too. Well..my wife did all the leg work based on my instructions :) She asked the manager about the scope of coverage of the ext. warranty and she was given a color booklet (about 10 pages and 5" by 5" in size) that talks about it all. I haven't read it though. I'll try to skim through it tonight and post anything that speaks to this issue.

I know we have someone on the board who works for CompUSA, maybe he would be able to provide some quick insight on this...

I was told by the manager that the way it showed on the computer
was CI/Repair which means carry in for repair. I asked him about
replacement and he said it wasnt part of this warranty.
I just got the warranty last night. After talking to the manager for a little bit, I did get the impression that he was not totally familiar with all the plans. He told me that it was a repair or replacement if the repair was not possible or feasible, and if no similar product was available, then the purchase price would be refunded as a credit towards a new camera. I did receive a little booklet that had the details on each plan that they offer. From what I could determine, there are 2 different warranty plans available that concerns the Uzi.

1) Carry-in Repair plan - basically states take it to CompUSA store for repair, and the insurance plan "has the option to repair or replace the defective product with a like product of equal or similar features, specifications and functionality. Replacement parts may be new or reconditioned of like kinf and quality."

2) Carry-in Replacement plan - states "In the event your covered product fails to operate and cannot be repaired(including mechanical or electrical defect in your product screen), the Replacement Plan will provide a one (1) time replacement of your original product with a product of equal or similar features, specifications, and functionality.

The replacement plan is only good for 1 or 2 years from the purchase date, while the repair plan is 2 and 3 years from the purchase date. They do have an Extended Replacement plan that is good for 1 or 2 years from the expiration date of the shortest portion of the manufacturers original warranty. I do not know anything on prices, this is just what was in the book. Looks like some more research may be necessary to make sure that we get the bast coverage for our new cameras.

Incidentally, they also offer an overseas/international warranty as well, although I expect that would be pretty expensive compared to the domestic ones.

Sneezer which warranty did you buy the 2yr or 3yr?

Im just going by what I was told by the manager. Its very possible he could be confused because he didnt even know that the 3yr warranty existed. My main concern is that I didnt recieve any booklet explaining the terms of the warranty.

I bought the 3 year that popped up on the website with the camera when you pull it up. SKU is 263603. The description on my receipt states "TAP 3yr C/I RPR DI 49.99" I assume this to mean 3 year Carry-In Repair, not sure what the DI stands for. I will be checking with CompUSA tonight after work to try and get the right info. I never realized they had so many different warranty programs. I was always used to Best Buy which just uses one, AFAIK.

By the way, the booklet I received is about the size of a CD case insert, about 20 pages or so, with contact info for the administrator for the warranty plans, etc.

Heidi got the $50 3-year warranty, and it does offer replacement, just like the $70 2-year warranty.

The warranty booklet cover says "This is a product repair/replacement "Comprehensive Plan."" The back says "If a covered component fails three times, it will be replaced." And it comes in a CD case with some Ontrack software.

seems like the CompUSA store managers do not have a common understanding of what services they are selling.

I just bought a 3 year warranty. It costs me $50. I got a booklet inside a CD case. I guess this is the same as what Heidi got.

Guys, if you do not have the booklet or the CD, I suggest you talk to the store and get one.
