Crazy prices...

... if you haven't noticed yet.

To get your order you will have to pay Import Duty and Tax which should bring the price up to the market in your country.

I guess it's cheap in China because it's cheaply made in China :)

Before we start advocating the 'removal' of a thread, let's be sure that what seems like a rip-off is a rip off before taking the information down just in case others would like to read it.

I've purchased tons of brand new items at dirt cheap, unbelievable prices because they were not asthetically perfect or didn't come with a box, etc.. I've purchased a brand new $50 law book for 25 cents.. and a $30 hunting knife (new from a national retail store) for $5 because it didn't come with a box.

Sooo... before we make sweeping assumptions that something is a rip-off (even though it very well might be), let's not assume the seller guilty until proven otherwise.

This has all of the classic signs of a scam... fly-by-night operations like this appear and disappear so quickly. If you need definitive proof beyond what you can tell from their website, please feel free to order an expensive lens from them and let us know how it works out for you. :) I'd prefer to just play it safe and not advertise for them on this forum. (If something doesn't come with a box or warrenty, it's only fair if the buyer is made explicitly area of that. But my bet is you wouldn't receive any box at all!) Best, Joe

I think you're confusing this forum with a court of law.

It is perfectly OK to "make sweeping assumptions that something is a
rip-off".

I've seen enough scams on EBay and on the Internet, and I do assume a seller's guilt, whether or not it's been proven. By assume his guilt, I mean I don't buy from him.

No. I'm not confused.

Of course it is.. because that's your own business :) However wanting to erase a thread that others might want to read and learn, from isn't perfectly OK.

I've been computing online since 1984 and I've seen my fair share of scams, and have been taken advantage by none. I wouldn't entertain sending any amount of money Western Union, Bank Check, etc.. However, I also know that there are good businesses and people out there who rather than deal with charge backs and bounced checks.. only deal in cash. Most of us know a scam when we see it.

If I get an offer from Africa I think it's a scam by default.. but I wouldn't want a dpreview thread erased based on my assumptions even if it is likely to be correct, as others might want to read the thread/advertisement and make a decision based on their own due diligence.

Stan's stated that he wanted the thread erased simply "...because those prices seem "too good to be true..."

My response is predicated on the fact that 'seemingly' too good to be true pricing is no reason to close a thread that others might find interesting/informative.

Cordially

You're right, of course. I don't know what the purpose would be to start deleting threads that can educate people as to how to spot a scam.

I never agreed with that.

There are even threads here talking about some of the most respected companies in a negative way, and they're also not deleted.

Forums like these, with people's diverging opinions on companies and scams are the best way to educate yourself about where you should (and should not) buy equipment. If we start deleting threads like this one, the scammers will have even more victims.

watch out, ecnnow.com is a scamsite. i ordered a nikon d80, moneytransfer with bank of china, no reactions anymore after payment!
