newbie pictures

Yes, I did have to sharpen them a little bit in photoshop bcuz I had a hard time getting sharp focus. As for the apperture & shutter setting, mostly around F/3.5 - 5 and S/ 1/4 - 1sec.

Here are a few pictures from the recent trip to vegas. I tried but
It was difficult to get sharp focus. I would appreciate any
pointers/tips in getting a sharp focus for night shot.

If you want better control over your night time shots, get yourself a nice, portable tripod. It really helps in sharpening up exposures over 1/4 sec!!!

Nice shots,

I cannot see any AF errors there, I have found with my Canon that if you persistently get AF fail to point the AF square at a strong colour or lighting boundary to get the focus lock.

In your shots the blurring visible is from camera shake during slow shutter, this leaves a chracteristic streakiness. The buildings in watershowsmoke.jpg show this clearly.

As the previous poster wrote a cmall tripod or monopod will help a lot with this. I find myself using the monopod a lot more often though as it is smaller and easier to set up and use.

I find that when I don't have a tripod I use a ledge/car/whatever to put the camera on, and also turn on the two second timer so that my pushing the button won't affect the picture quality.
