well I got my 40D today, and I am so happy with the results from my first picture. The only thing i did to the picture is add contrast and sharpness. this was shot at ISO100 in P mode in my backyard. I would love any comments (good or bad)

Nice picture. I have to talk you for exposing another flaw in my monitors. Both of them seem to colorshift when viewing that picture. Great, something else to add to the list.

The original is much nicer. Be careful on saturation during PP. If your monitor isn't calibrated, what you are seeing is not what we see so when your PPing you could be making inaccurate adjustments.

I prefer to pp on my laptop and if I move the screen slightly the picture looks different so I have a few pictures in the drawer and the same ones in file on my computer. Before PP I'll refer to these to set my screen. I used to post pics and get simular opinions....too much or not enough colour contrast etc. Once I did this I got alot more of......nice shot keep it up.

how would i go about calibrating my monitor ?
That is something I would be interested in too (especially for my laptop monitor, which offers less adjustability than a standard monitor).

Can anybody offer some advice on this subject matter >

o wow! I edited that photo in my original post on my old laptop (2002 dell laptop.) Just moved the pics to my desktop and, now i see what you are all talking about. the original is much much better.

im going to have to figure out how to calibrate my laptop monitor

Calibrating a laptop (or most LCD monitors) is not easy to do. You might want to invest in a claibration tool.

Hi,

if you want to visually calibrate you can go here. http://www.displaycalibration.com/

While it is not a true or proffesional one, it is good until you get the hardware.

EDIT: I should note I used this and while I do not have the hardware yet either asjusting using this made a huge difference. No for normal use the laptop isn't as consumer POP for the display colors but pictures look much more natural and way easier to edit.
