Dear pasionate people,

Tomorrow I will go to buy a MKIII to my local dealer. I need your help regarding what I need to check before accepting this faboulus camera. I come from 1D MKII so I am quite familiar with those bodies.

Easier thing is to check the serial number: what would you sugest ?

Any other thoughts ?

Many thanks !

Thanks a lot...

Maybe it would be better to know the serial from wich there is not any problem onward.

Many thanks !

To fully secure things, what would be the logical serial number for a new 1d mkIII today ?

Weird questions, but big investment...

Tx!

My serial number is #503XXX, one of the first bodies purchased in the U.K. It works like a dream with 500 f/4, 400 f/5.6 and 100-400 zoom, as do most of these cameras. I have not had to send it for the "fix", nor would I. Don't believe too much of what you read here, or on any other web forum.

Just a thought and with all respect:

I have read last inputs of Rob Galbraith:

Q. Canon has also released new firmware for the EOS-1Ds Mark III, and it includes what sounds like the same autofocus changes as the new firmware for the EOS-1D Mark III. Is that because the EOS-1Ds Mark III has the same autofocus characteristics as the EOS-1D Mark III?

Yes. While we haven't published anything about EOS-1Ds Mark III autofocus to date, we've used the high-resolution camera extensively since mid-December 2007 and can say that its autofocus strengths and weaknesses echo the EOS-1D Mark III.

Amazing... Not clear. "its autofocus strengths and weaknesses echo the EOS-1D Mark III." What do you think of this answer ? Both 1d and 1DS are no reliable but it can not be said directly ?

I have both a 1DIII and 1DsIII and the focus has worked fine on both from the start. When they did the mirror fix (which as I understand was simply replacing a rubber stopper that got spongy when hot) they also adjusted to focus so now all lenses are within +-1 on the micro focus. The firmware they just released for both makes the focus less jittery, but never had a problem before

Thank you so much to all of you.

I finally decided to go on a Nikon D3... To much uncertainty for this kind of inestment...

Ask if they have a D3 in stock and save the heartache that many have suffered
