I created an action from instructions given by Gregory George on creating a ink and watercolor effect in PS. It's a fun application that works nicely on some pictures. If a few people are interested e-mail me and I'll try to attach the action in a return e-mail. It was created in PS6 and works now in my PS7. It does need a blur function called smart blur, so it should work in any version of PS that has smart blur. And before I get flamed, the picture I used as an example is not mine and the technique is not mine. It comes from Gregory George that has a web site and a book out "50 Photoshop Digital Photo Techniques" which has alot of neat effects (I may not have gotten the title entirely right). I did add one extra step to his instructions. I must have too much time on my hands! Dave

Hello Dave, I like your creation. One comment about the time on your hands -- You certainly are very generous by using your time creatively, then sharing the results with OTHERS. Keep up the good work

I don't think anyone has tried to flame you Dave. I thought I was the first on earth to discover it worked to use hue/saturation making the blue lighter to fix snow pics with a heavy blue cast. I was very happy to discover it and I wanted to tell the whole world (or at least this forum) about it. Some people tried it and found it was working well (others were a bit less enthusiastic) and then someone came along and told me it was common knowledge. But I had never seen it anywhere and now a lot of people who hadn't seen it either also got a valuable tip. There are zillions of Photoshop tips all over the net and elsewhere, but this forum is my favourite. I have learnt so much here and the tips keep on coming from generous people like you.

And yes - I would very much like to try your ink & watercolour action. I have done a lot of ink & watercolour, but not with an action. I found the technique on the net but I don't follow it exactly. You always have to make adjustments depending on your picture - like always.

My e-mail is [email protected] if you would like to send me the action. Thank you in advance, Dave.

You might want to experiment with erasing the edges of the top layer of the picture with a soft brush at perhaps 50% opacity for the water color fade look...Dave

Dave: I too have really enjoyed your posts and learned some very interesting things about Photoshop techniques from you. I would appreciate being emailed a copy of your Ink & Watercolor action. I can't seem to get the email function to work through DPReview. My email is: [email protected]. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave:

Thanks for the "Ink & Watercolor" action, I really like the affect, now if I only had some artistic ability, I could get fancy when using the brush to erase hard edges like you suggested. LOL.

JJ...Nice work. Purposely left the layers. The line art created with the smart blur is adjustable and can be adapted to many types of photos. Some with a lot of details another with not so much. All I've used smart blur so far is for line art. Got to start messing with it. Glad you liked it. Dave
Dave
Thank you for your action and I like the fact that it leaves the
layers around so one can tweak them. I ran you on one photo and
without tweaking this is what it produced sized down a bit.

I think that is excellent. Is it possible to do this with PS Elements or is the full version of PS required? Thanks

I am just learning Photoshop and would love to have a copy of this action.

Thanks! ([email protected])
